Make sure you use a midi file for the background sound. A lot of amateurs will use mp3 or even wav files but those use a lot of bandwidth.

I have two basic web design questions:

1. I need to make a page very similar to this one, where when you click on the text on the nav bar the text in the center changes without reloading the entire page. I haven't done more then basic web editing since frames were popular, so I am out of date on terms. What is this function called so can I look up how to do it?

example:
http://digicoll.library.wisc.edu/cgi/f/findaid/findaid-idx?c=wiarchives;view=reslist;subview=standard;didno=uw-whs-mss00012

2. For this same project, I need to embed 5 different audio tracks, 1 per section of the page as clicked on in the first question. I know how to do this with objects, but my question is, should I handle it in some other way than telling the browser to just load quick time and the appropriate file?

the first example, although it is 1 page, the entire page does reload when you click the tabs. This can be done with PHP. You'd just write a file like "index.php" and each tab link would be something like index.php?page=home, index.php?page=contact, index.php?page=faq, etc. And then you'd write a different code section in the index.php where it says if "faq" print this, if "contact" print this etc. Google "PHP Get" to learn how to do that.

If you really want to do it without the page reloading you'd use javascript and (maybe) AJAX but that's much more difficult and I wouldn't bother doing that unless you really need it.

That is really ridiculous reasoning you're using there. So one of example of Kennedy not using the phrase "the sixties" is supposed to mean something? People said "80s" and "90s" all the time in those decades. And politicans in general aren't going to use those terms in speeches since they are sort of informal.

Just take the test. I only went out 3 or 4 times driving before I took it and I did fine. 25 hours is way overkill. You're just as likely to do something stupid after 25 hours practice as after 5 hours. It took me more like a year to stop doing little boneheaded things but those are unlikely to happen in the 5 minutes it takes to do the test. Just drive slow when you take the test and be alert and careful and make sure you can parallel park and you'll be fine.

This morning I vaguely ran a school bus stop sign. I treat those things as sacrosanct, but today I justified it by: 1) That bus is right before my parking ramp, 2) It usually sits there for five minutes, and 3) I made certain that I didn't pass when the sign was out and blinking. But it was in the motion of opening. And the bus's amber lights were on, which was a no-no. I figured it was equivalent to the red light going on just as you clear an intersection. The bus driver honked angrily at me. (Note that no children were in danger; they got on from the curb side, no one crossed the street) In the end, it didn't matter; the red light after it held me up. It wasn't worth it in the least, and now I'm feeling bad and wanting to throw myself upon the mercy of the city, instead of waiting 2 months or whatever for a citation to arrive in the mail, should one even arrive. Should I do this? Send an email or call in saying I was the rear end in a top hat who did it this morning? Or just go down to the station with my checkbook and get it over with? Looks like the penalty in Iowa is $330 (oy) so I'd rather not pay, but... would there be any consideration if I came forward today and said mea culpa? Or just wait it out and see if the driver took down my license (considering, thanks to the red light, he had ample time to do so)?

Is there a way to take that entire page and make a new page from it using the code or something. Clearly you can see I am not a web developer.

You shouldn't have to copy anything. There should be a way to configure the webhost so when you add a new domain it points to that folder. It depends on where/how the site is hosted. There should be some kind of control panel to add new domains.

Why is it said that alarms and sirens "go off"?

It could be your alarm clock your burglar alarm or a siren on a police car down the street but if you were to describe it you'd say it's "going off".

If your phone rings, it's ringing. If you get a text it's notifying/ringing/beeping whatever. If you have the alarm set on your phone to wake you up, even if you're using the same young jeezy ringtone to wake you up that you used as a text notification last week, you'd still say it's going off.

Coming on?

I don't like this term and I don't know why. Maybe if I knew some history (etymology :smug: ) of it I'd be less offended.

It might be a variation on things like "lift off", "blast off", "take off" etc.
