I work in musical theater, in a pretty major house (2,500+ seats) and we pre covid had "touch tours" backstage where the visually impaired could come backstage and see set pieces up close, and well, touch things. It was typically run by one of our wardrobe people, no idea why, and myself as the head carpenter. We also do audio description nights where there are two people who describe what is going on and people that have requested wireless head sets can hear them. We also do a closed captioning night, with small LED sign boards in one section of the house. And we also do nights with ASL interpreters who sign throughout the entire show and we seat people in their small section.

I've bought or been involved in, craigslist purchases up and over $10k all done in cash. Harleys, work trucks, excavators, firearms (okay this one was in Texas, and Texas is weird) Bring a buddy, because they are bringing a buddy, if you can meet somewhere neutral with cameras even better. In the town I grew up in there was a parking lot in front of the police station that was marked off just for transactions. $1,000 is alot of money. . .but not really. When you hold a grand in hundred dollar bills it feels like nothing. Have fun. Be safe. Wear a mask.

So in a house you can have a full bath (bathtub/shower, sink, and toilet), a half bath or powder room (sink and toilet), and a water closet (just a toilet). Is there a term for a room with a tub/shower and a toilet?

What country are you in? In the USA, I don't think I've ever seen "just a toilet". There's atleast a small handwashing sink. I feel like to stay sanitary, you'd have to constantly clean the inside doorknob of the WC since you weren't washing your hands before touching it. Alot of plan drawings I've seen just label all bathrooms as a Water Closet or WC.

Weird. I'm in Houston, and I've never seen it. I've worked on mostly older houses here, but I've been in alot of newer townhouses since they are being thrown up extremely fast and mostly poorly. I also did alot of residential work back in Massachusetts, and even in older homes that had been retrofitted for indoor plumbing they managed to squeeze sinks into the space.

To your question, I imagine that a solo toilet is done for space saving reasons, and if you've managed to get a tub and a toilet into the room you'd have room for a sink of some sort. I've never seen it done in any parts of the country I've worked in. Is it something you're seeing come up?

I should clarify, when the toilet is behind its own door, but that door is still inside the bathroom, I think of the whole thing as being the bathroom. That's starting to become more common in nicer houses, particularly in the Master (Home Owner, now I guess) suite.

But that's still a full bath, and there is still a sink. There's not just a stand alone room with a toilet and nothing else. With the germs thing, I meant if there is no sink inside or outside of that door, what is the likelihood people are washing their hands?

I cut some fingers off back when I was 14. They mostly put my hand back together. I'm missing half the index finger on my left hand, with limited motion in the rest of the hand. She looked me dead in the eye and told me I had a lisp.

I smashed one of my fingers on a job site pretty bad. I started getting compartment syndrome in the finger tip, skin was dusky. I heated up a safety pin and drilled a little relief hole in the nail, almost entirely painless. Blood shot out and relieved pressure, nail eventually fell off and regrew.

Why are you trying to remove a fingernail?

I bought a cheap Virgin Mobile burner phone when I was working a convention, and eventually I ended up keeping it over my Sprint phone because it had better reception. It eventually became Boost when they got bought out or something, but I used it for years and never really had a huge problem. I mentioned to my neighbor that my phone was getting old and lovely, and he asked if I wanted to switch to ATT. Apparently he works for them as an in-home specialist.

I got a new Motorola phone at $2/month tacked onto my plan, and between all the incentives and poo poo, I'm paying the about the same for ATT as I was for Boost. Theres just a bunch of benefits. Free HBO Max (That I was paying $15/mo for) $250 bonus for switching over (You can get a gift card, or have it applied to your monthly bill) and a bunch of other poo poo, like money off for going paperless, money off for signing up for auto pay, stuff like that. Also if you're Union, you can get $10/mo per line off, free activation, and some other discounts. The big sell for me was the free hotspot poo poo for jobsites.

Apparently ATT will send out a tech and swap your phone over for you in home now, which just seems wild to me. He had a tablet and a card scanner, and did everything sitting in my living room, including porting my number. I didn't know that was a thing.

I'll tell you in a few months if I hate it or not.

Is it completely clogged or a slow drain?

Draino and one of those cheap plastic snakes will probably do you. If you're going to put an actual plumbing snake down the drain you need to pull the stopper first.

They even sell a gel with a plastic snake you can throw away, because you probably don't want to deal with cleaning a real snake and storing it.

Bicycle or motorcycle?

A good lock should be pretty obvious .

For motorcycles they also make disc brake locks so you can't just roll them away. Some of them also have a motion sensor so if you shake the bike the alarm goes off. Most motorcycles these days also have fork locks.

Even for bicycles these days you can get a vibration alarm that just runs on batteries so if someone tries to move the bike and alarm goes off.

I've had pretty good luck with those cheap little bicycle alarms, usually if someone goes to grab the bike and an alarm goes off, they decide to just gently caress off.

Edit: I know nothing about this alarm, it was just the first one I grabbed off Amazin

Gaff tape is like a cloth based duct tape that is designed not to leave a residue. It's incredibly strong, and cleans off easily. You can get it in thinner rolls marketed as spike tape, but it is literally the same thing but skinnier. It can be kind of expensive, we spend thousands on it in a year, but if you have anyone in your life that works in TV/Film/Theater/Concerts etc then they surely have a few rolls in their truck, or house, or bag, or stuck to them right now. We use Pro-Gaff most of the time.

Everyone should have a roll of gaff in their life. It's better than duct tape in every way, except maybe for sealing air ducts.

Gaff tape will absolutely leave a sticky residue if you leave it for a long time. It's meant to be used for just a couple of days at a time; it'll hold for much longer, and I don't know what the timing is for how long is good for without the residue, but I do know that removing it months or years later, it definitely leaves a residue.

I uh, don't know what kind of gaff you're buying, or where you're using it, but it has to sit on something a long time before it becomes an issue. In a (relatively) climate controlled setting, I've regularly left gaff on things for ~6 months without an issue. I've pulled years-old gaff off stuff out in the shop without too much of an issue. And that's a shop without climate control in Texas. It tends to become sort of brittle and peel off. If it does leave a residue you get the props guys to come clean it off with some isopropyl alcohol.

My buddy is a merchant marine out of the United States. He went to an intense maritime academy, which is run like the military. Uniforms, no covers worn inside, room inspections, all that. He did a 4 year engineering degree that also included one or two "semesters at sea" where you are actively running a large ship while taking classes.

He ended up with a bachelor's degree and a bunch of certifications, including one for steam plants. He got scooped up by the US military to work on a communications ship out towards the middle east. He made a ton of money working as a civilian on a military ship.

After that he would just kind of pick and choose whatever jobs interested him for awhile, came back land side, and went to work for a nuclear plant.

He then sold his house, bought a travel trailer, and tooled around playing music in random dive bars.

Depending on how far you want to go with it, you could get a job working as a stagehand doing magic shows on a carnival cruise ship, like, today, with no background experience, as long as you can get your passport and probably TWIC card.

If you want to do something more ship related, you're best bet is to go to school.

Yo, pretty sure that's an uncut duplex nail. I'd say probably one in a hundred end up like that coming off the machine. Sometimes more if it was a bad run. I've had upwards of 20% of a box come out like that. And duplex nails are made to be easily pulled back out. There's probably a bunch more around the house. Probably from having pump jack stagging tagged into the side of the house when it was being worked on, or walker boards tagged into the roof. They're also used alot for concrete forms unless you're using ICF (Giant hollow Legos you leave in place).

On most of the bottles and cans there is a tiny little "UNION MADE" just above the hops at the bottom right of the logo. It's a fun little party trick to show people, particularly in Texas when they are drinking Miller Lite and bashing unions.

For some reason, not all of them have it, maybe 20% that I've noticed if I had to take a wild guess. Why don't they all have it? Is it coming from different plants? But if that's the case why are different plants all shipping to the same city in Texas?

About how much does it actually cost to build a house these days? I recognize that answers will vary wildly depending on circumstances, so let's narrow things down a bit:

- Purchasing and grading land is not part of the equation (nor is tearing down any existing structures)
- Location is suburban or not-very-remote rural USA, not a real estate hot spot
- House is under 1000 square feet, single story
- Fitting out the house with essential equipment (heating/cooling as needed, toilets, kitchen, etc) is included

I'm also not looking for a quote here, just a broad back-of-the-envelope number. E.g. "anywhere from $100k to $200k" or something like that.

Ballpark, from when I was building houses, circa 2005, for a two story two bed two bath I could knock out a "budget" house for $120k if the land was cleared and the owner covered electrical and plumbing hookups. Napkin math says I could about the same for around $175k right now because cost of materials are still through the roof. It would be cheaper to buy a pre-existing than to build. My numbers may be significantly off.

Either let them do it themselves, or come and help them do it if they explain what it is they need. Usually with the caveat that you have to leave whatever it is installed, or repair it when you're done. I just added a hidden outlet for a lighted/heated mirror because the renters ask and the owner was just like sure why not. It didn't take me but half an hour and parts we had kicking around.

For bands that use printed setlists, is it expected that a music venue will have a printer for them to use?

We tour with printers. Just like we have work boxes full of tools and gear, we have road cases that go straight into the production office with printers, computers, etc. This seems like it's pretty common for larger groups. Most venues I've been in, they have their own offices and would print off one or two things for you if you asked, but wouldn't intend on doing any heavy lifting for you. Thinking about it, I think we typically have two printers that go into the production office, a Front of House printer that goes with LX, and a really nice printer that lives in Ampland or RF world with the audio guys. Most of my experience is in ~3,000+ seat houses, so ymmv.

If you're a touring act, you can always put it in your tech rider, and the producer or venue would provide.

Oh thats just for stuff we need internally, things that might change venue to venue. Things like play bills or promotional materials get delivered. Its common to have an entire trailer (or many trailers for stadium tours, etc) just for merch and marketing, but that gets re-upped along the way. Hauling extra poo poo all over the country gets expensive, so you try to only carry what you need for a few stops, and have more delivered to the venues in advance as you run low on things to restock.

You typically wouldn't print things like your set list in advance for all your stops, because its likely to change. Stage Management would typically handle printing off new sheets at each stop with any updates or changes.
