The game didn't look too bad, in fairness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccqJ9W_E3jI.

That footage is from an alpha build. Considering the game was due out in 1997, same year as Curse of Monkey Island was released, it's pretty comparable. The late 90s were the death throes of the adventure genre, I think Blizzard just didn't want to take the risk. Even Lucas Arts backed off after Grim Fandango.

Yeah, it doesn't look that bad, given how it's an leaked alpha version. It just painfully looks like a '90s point-and-click adventure title. From a company that prides itself on refining the hell out of their titles (and thus the genre it's in), I can understand why they canned it.

When the first trailers for Mega Man Universe were coming out, Capcom's community liaisons said that not only was the MM9 secret still at large, the developers put a similar one into MM10. My guess is it won't be found until Wii emulation catches up to where people can pick apart the code like they can with NES games.

Yeah, it's only been in the last few years that people were able to pick apart N64 games and find all kinds of weirdness. Like the Arwing in Ocarina of Time which was allegedly used to test the game's unique (at the time) aiming system. What I'm getting at is whatever MM9's secret is that it will be found one day.

Final Fantasy 7's translation as a whole is pretty messed-up but since we were all 12 when we played it back in the day we never noticed it.
