The implications of this soul-stealing being hereditary are that Mr. Carver agreed to get her pregnant anyways, and Surma went through with it... why? Was there some particular need for Annie?

Actually Coyote doesn't smile during his introduction scene until he starts talking to Annie. Maybe he isn't as universally fun-loving as we'd think.

vvv i mean she's no longer visiting, she's staying in the forest.

Honestly, I think it's hilarious. Coyote clearly doesn't want to deal with petty poo poo, so if it gets dumped in his lap he's going to make sure you know he's not liking it.
Or perhaps if he's dealing with something boring, he has he urge to make it more exciting.

Nope, it's a treatise. Mm, symbolism. I like how Annie's still tied to Kat, though Jeanne is separating them. Also, it does seem pretty implied that Ysengrin's ear loss is somehow magic-related.

If, that is, some kind of book deal like that exists, that is.
That is. I was told in my writing classes that those checkout aisle romance novels you can find in grocery stores are basically bought from the author for a few grand. Authors learn to crank them out fast enough to make a living. I dunno what the deal with Siddell's books are though... they're really high quality, and the seller, Archaia, seems like it's independent.

And her husband seems to approve, too, considering he used etheric technology to protect Annie when Ysengrin attacked her. And when Anja used magic in the flashback he thought it was super rad.
But yeah, I'm sure Kat is missing part of the story, or she wouldn't be so torn about how to treat Annie.
