What's amazing about this page is that somehow I can hear it. The carnival sounds, slowly fading into merry echoes as they cross the bridge, followed by the oppressive stony silence on the Court side. Synesthesia is a hell of a thing, apparently.

I seem to recall Tom once mentioning that, if he had to choose between the Court's secret agenda and the Forest's secret agenda, he'd choose the Court. That might mean the Court is just a shade less lovely, but still. (Or else Tom secretly hates trickster gods.)

Peacefully oblivious, Annie and Kat row back to the shore with arrow in hand to find all their friends' heads on spikes and Jeanne waiting for them. Then they row back across to the forest side to find Ysengrin telling them that they can't come ashore because they've been tainted by the arrow's energy. The comic changes names to Annan Waters and follows the pair as they live the rest of their lives on a tiny rowboat eating river fish to survive.

Two options; 1. Parley either teleports of superjumps Smitty to safety. Everybody else stands around wondering how the hell they'll all get back. 2. Annie turns around and Smitty's standing there unharmed with a kind of "Well, what can ya do?" look on his face, while everybody else is sobbing around a body a little ways off.
