I'm pretty sure he can still transfer bodies (and kill people), the only thing holding to not taking Annie is that he loved Surma. poo poo's gonna hit the fan. Renard will gently caress. YOU. UP.

It will take a large amount of restraint on Renard's part to not crush Annie.

\/\/ drat it, forgot about that.

Probably just a sentence there to be interrupted for dramatic effect.

For example:

"No you didn't think!"

Not saying Coyote is going to be a source of danger for Annie, but the device was given to her before her first permitted outing.

My take on the villains in GC: ignorance, apathy, selfishness, intolerance, fear, and despair.

It seems like Coyote's main focus here is making sure nobody in the Forest knows about the sword - he's happy it's in the Court so it won't be found on her. If it were a spy device, he would be telling her not to tell anyone in the Court about it, which he didn't. It is interesting, though. Why should he care? Just because it's a powerful weapon? That doesn't seem sufficient.

Maybe he doesn't want everyone to come to him with their problems. If he gave everyone he knew a tooth, his mouth would taste like rocks...

Well, Reynard and Isengrim (or Ysengrin) is a cycle of Medieval European stories about a clever trickster fox who constantly gets the better of a dim-witted wolf. I'd assume that in the world of GC these stories are about real events, since Coyote heard about them and traveled across the ocean to find them.

Anyway, generally speaking, in these stories Reynard is a folk hero/trickster type and Ysengrin is a self-important bully who keeps trying to get Reynard arrested and/or killed.

Which would probably explain Disney's use of a fox and wolf for their rendition of Robin Hood. (Robin is the fox, the wolf is the Sheriff.)

I like to think that he intended to inhabit the stuffed animal; however, equally possible is that he wanted to take over Annie's body for either revenge (because Annie 'killed' Surma), or for her phoenix powers. I like the second idea because, no doubt, now he would be so remorseful for attempting such a thing and would add to his internal conflict.

Someone mentioned he might be sick of having a spire poke through his leg while he was imprisoned. And while a Rogat Orjak would be a fun body to tool around in, imagine the fun of a fire elemental.

Reynardine mentions interest in the stuffed animal held by Annie:
http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=46

He then expresses displeasure at having to inhabit it:
http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=54

Though, he may have been feigning his own demise to avoid detection.

Previous to that, though, he gives up, and insists on keeping Annie safe:
http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=45

I like how this notion of what he meant to do is ambiguous, even if T.S. didn't mean for it to be (not saying one way or the other.)
