Me too, probably. But I very specifically remember getting Solar Jetman and Startropics 2 from them near the end for $20 each.

I miss my Coextro fibre in a downtown Toronto condo (I moved into a house). Two sub-30 minute outages and one 3 hour outage in 7 years. And it was cheap and fast :(

Was also wondering if there was an issue with magnet links vs. "legit" ones.

The fibre provider eats the fees for exclusivity and free marketing.

I really liked Coextro fwiw at 111 Elizabeth. Affordable, fast, symmetric, unlimited. In five+ years had one three hour block of downtime, and two more that were less than fifteen minutes.

Beanfield outage at work, sigh.

Edit: back after about 45 minutes. Really convenient in the middle of remote leadership meetings and interviews.

Beanfield is no longer. Just got bought by Colony Capital (a US based VC firm) for $180mm iirc - same guys who bought Aptum (ex-Cogeco's colo and fiber stuff/ex-peer1). Also about to acquire Zayo.

So they'll just probably amalgamate things together under 1 banner (Aptum?), raise the rates and attempt to sell in a few years.

Just wanted to reiterate how reprehensible Bell sales are? Had my parents pushing their 80s paying $80/mth for 30 Mbps down and a $20/mth Crave subscription they don't know how to use.

My parents paid that for a 2 megabit connection in the loving boonies, and Crave flat out didn't work at that speed but they weren't allowed to remove it from the bundle. Now they're on Starlink at least, haha.
Yeah, we're trying to figure it out. We had them on TekSavvy originally, but Bell talked them into bundling everything ... which that said, is probably still cheaper than what they were paying for Rogers cable TV. But it'll be a mess to sort it out. Dad still needs his sports.

My brother just showed me the bills lol. $70 for POTS too. They're Very Concerned about 911 access so can't do VoIP for them, in case of a power failure. But I remember TekSavvy selling me POTS for like $11/mth ages ago.

edit: they don't know analogue phones on their site at all these days. There must still be some reseller out there. (I am doing the research.)

I can live without internet, but 8+ hours without meaningful communication about what is going on is lol.

My Freedom phone internet has been decaying all day to where I can barely even send IMs.

I'm going outside!!

Meh a lot of them seem designed to work around this. I.e. the connected lights will power on manually if you cycle the power switch.

The down side of this is that those lights power on when there's a brief power outage overnight lol.

I don't necessarily blame the NDP/Singh for this.

I thought there was something off with my TekSavvy modem; I had to reboot it once a day for several weeks. I was being a tad lazy about contacting support.

And then mysteriously after that Rogers outage, I've never needed to reboot it since.

For years my Teksavvy-on-Rogers 100/10 has actually been 300/10. Billing error? Not complaining.

Yeah I'm aware of the burst, but it sustains when torrenting or downloading poo poo on Steam.

teethgrinder
Oct 9, 2002

Lol ... I've always gotten ~250 Mbps down on TekSavvy Cable, when I pay for a 100 plan. (Sustained, not burst.) But my upload has been consistently 10.0 Mbps for six years or so. It's magically 30 now :iiam:

That's been that way for me for several years. I have 75/10, speed test says 204/31.75. The 30 Gb upload is new though. Used to have 100, but dropped down to save money. Speed hardly changed. Also just noticed that their current 100/10 package costs the same as our grandfathered 75/10. I don't know if we should switch since best case scenario the only change is the name of the package.
I figure I'm just not going to do anything that risks screwing it up.

Streamed a game with friends tonight and had zero-latency, essentially confirming my upload is vastly better than it ever has been.

How did you do that? I’m still on their $50+tax plan and don’t even use half of it. The service in the subway rules pretty hard and I don’t think I could ever switch off. Given the way I quit Rogers for them and how Fizz turned out, I’m not looking forward to either new owner.
Not sure I can help much.

I don't know if they were running a promo, but my coworker just told me to talk to them. I found that their website wouldn't even let me change plans ... all the options just lead to having to chat with customer support. They asked what I was looking for (their current plans were better than mine for the same price) and just offered me a loyalty discount without prompting.

The weirdest thing though is that nothing is lining up when I logged into my profile to check details. It SAYS my plan is 30 GB for $60/mth, but my invoices are clearly $33.90 with tax. Also my usage shows I get 40 GB lol.

A couple jobs ago we got a C&D because someone on the office network was downloading vampire-themed porn.

When I checked logs unfortunately it went cold at something like "android-32732".

Not sure if there's a better thread for this, but weirdly NBC started region-blocking Late Night with Seth Meyers on YouTube... but you can still stream it from ctv.ca!

I can't find any information as to why. Like is this a CTV call? Someone on reddit pointed out loving Fallon is still on YouTube and they're both NBC.

Dumb question...do smart bulbs, switches, etc potentially cause local WiFi issues? Been using a Nest mesh a few years and finding lately we need to reboot it roughly once a week to restore performance.

I assumed it was my torrents. When I used to use Linksys/Netgear stuff I'd use custom firmware to aggressively shut down stale connections... but I use bittorrent so rarely these days.

teethgrinder
Oct 9, 2002

That's helpful, but I mostly meant, they're all connected to the same mesh, and I'm wondering if they might cause undo stress on local bandwidth/connections or just maybe the consumer grade Nest wifi can't handle 40+ devices.

I'll shut my NAS/torrent thingy down completely next and see if that changes anything.

lol... bulbs add up. But bulbs were easier than switches where two switches (tripole?) control the same circuit. They were cheap (Teckin) and much nicer tweakable warm light vs. what used to be there prior.
