If you're Canadian and you wanted one of the first ones, it's already too late. Personally I'd be extremely weary of buying a Mexico-built Italian car that seems likely to cause you trips to what I can only generously refer to as a truly awful dealer network. Seriously, Chrysler dealers will not hesitate to gently caress you over and Chrysler Canada will stand by them, that's been my experience.

A bigger issue is that this will be the first year these cars are build in new facilities, more than the fact that said facilities are in Mexico. The dealers are the big problem in my view. The service my mother got when she had her 300M was literally dishonest in many instances, but Chrysler Canada always backed the dealer against the customer, so why would you want to do this to yourself? And keep in mind, I always thought the car was very good, but the whole experience was ruined by having to deal with crooks.

You also have to account for the fact that the Mini is actually quite old by car-model standards now (nearly 10 years old).

The NY Times has an article on how the 500 had to be modified for the North American market: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/27/automobiles/27LIST.html?_r=1&src=twrhp&pagewanted=print

I really don't know that the Bond franchise is doing Aston Martin any favors. In Goldfinger we found out that the DB5 is not as fast as a Rolls-Royce limousine that's made of gold, and now we find that a DBS can't outpace a FWD Alfa with an engine < 3L.

I used to have an 89 Ford Escort "pony" whose gas engine produced a whopping 90 bhp and it was zippy enough. Of course it wasn't weighed down by any, you know, features so it weighed less than a ton.

Technically if you don't like the smiley face on the Mazda 2 you can always buy a Fiesta, they're built on the same platform. I quite liked the Fiesta, with the upper trims you do get a lot for your money.

I don't care where it's made, small urban cars like this are a niche in North America. Fact is that you'd be pressed to fit a typical north american grocery order in there and you really couldn't take much home from Ikea using it. So if you like to do things like go shop at Costco, or if you prefer to run more than one errand at a time, the Fiat 500 is most likely not the car for you. So that leaves it a good car for fashionistas for whom being seen is everything, and perhaps wealthier, multi-car households who can afford to buy a not-so-practical car, but in general they're likelier to buy a sports car.
