Is the film editing program that come with Apple computers decent for basic hobbyist stuff?

The thing is, my current laptop is about twice as thick as it used to be, so I’m thinking I should probably replace it eventually. I don’t have a very strong opinion on apple vs Windows, so if Apple came with a built in suite of software that would let me do some of the ideas I’ve had kicking around for awhile, that would be a strong point in their favor.
