delicious beef posted:Yeah, this is true. I suspect this is mostly a kit/equipment thing - basketball hoops are everywhere, especially in cities, and all you need after that is a ball, not even a racquet each, never mind all the bullshit required for cricket. It's interesting that media coverage hasn't really caught up with people playing, maybe cricket and rugby just hold a lot of dominance over scheduling. I would say the lack of TV coverage is down to the sheer amount of games that take place. Terrestrial channels couldn't go near it in any meaningful way. ESPN do their bit, but are relatively new and I don't know what their subscription figures are. American Football is much easier to cover as it only last from September to January in terms of the regular season and teams only play once a week. Also, most of the games are on at reasonable times in the UK, unlike basketball.

The thing about that article is that if you take it without any prior knowledge and just look at the facts, he sort of has a point, much like how a valid argument could be made for promotion/relegation in US sports. Of course, once you look at things like tradition, history and the league pyramid it seems ridiculous. I just wish American sports writers would accept that football doesn't need fixing.

We don't and then everyone's happy! I love the tone in all of these sort of articles that Americans are doing the rest of the world a favour by attempting to get into football. (I just mean in these articles, not from fans on here before someone accuses me of taring all Americans with the same brush, much like it's only people who aren't fans who complain about the breaks in American Football and the like.)

I find Waddle quite likable. He's not fantastic and can't pronounce the word "penalty" (although that may be down to his own demons), but I think he's ok. Could just be because I liked him so much as a player, though.
