I was talking to the PD at X 103.9 today and he gave me some advice about my specific show. I hope I can help anybody else. Also, I am the Host of the Wedge Radio Show and the other guys are co-hosts that have no radio experience. FIRST: When doing show prep, make sure to have an opinion to argue that is contrary to at least one person on the show. This makes better Radio. Second: Push to be Proper for your audience. If you say gently caress and poo poo then you shouldn't have a problem talking about eating pussy, this is what he told me, don't be go around saying things when it's uncensored. If it is censored, then keep it that way and watch the content. Finally: Know your cohosts and their buttons. Push their buttons to get them heated about topics. Take the Helm and make the people in the show MAD! They get upset, then it creates a great radio show because it's real. Even though you might be arguing poo poo that's not what you believe. You're playing a character, you're not you. Make it work. He is a big talk fan and has been in the business for over 20 years. The guy is appreciative and funny, so he doesn't come across as conceited or like an rear end in a top hat. I hope I help somebody, cause it helped me! http://wedgeradio.net

The only blessing about my underemployed lifestyle (seriously, just TRY to get a full time media gig) is that I can sustain two weekly podcasts.

Christ, I envy you in a way. I'm glad I'm employed but for a while I was doing a weekly podcast and I wrote a book at the same time. My job killed that while paying my rent. It's sort of sad. WHY IS THERE NO ARTIST CLASS?

This Friday I'm recording a live podcast with a studio audience and all that fixin's. We right now will have 4 stage mics and 1 to pick up audience reaction. I was wondering if any of you had any experience with this and had any suggestions or tips. Even if you have been to a live podcast recording, any advice or thoughts are welcome.

I've done a live cast before. 1) It's a lot of fun and there is tons of energy. In my experience, both as a caster and listener, this doesn't necessarily make it more entertaining to listen to. Just something to keep in mind. 2) You do not need a mic to record audience reaction, I would say. It'll be loud enough. Just my two cents, of course.

So to add more misery to my misery pile some weird poo poo happened to my feedburner feed. http://feeds.feedburner.com/LouReadsTheInternetForYou It apparently now goes to some lovely dead sites place holder. There is no explaination to be to be had. The feed http://loureads.com/?feed=rss2 is up and appears normal but seriously... WTF... I checked my htaccess, I checked the wp-config. I checked a ton of poo poo looking for exploits. Nothing... I changed my passwords and everything. Its just very frustrating...

Did a quick google, looks like you've got the 'Pharma hack' This is supposed to be a fix (got link from Wordpress forums): http://blog.sucuri.net/2011/02/cleaning-up-an-infected-web-site-part-i-wordpress-and-the-pharma-hack.html Step one says to do a google search for “site:yoursite.com” - I did this for loureads.com and the #1 result is a cash advance thing for your site loureads.com. Don't know if you know but you've got a massive banner spam ad right at the top of your site! I'd get with your web host and go through the steps that site tells you to do...good luck dude!

Wow... Thanks. I could not figure it out for the life of me. Looks like I have a busy and annoying evening ahead of me. EDIT: Ok... well it looks like someone did actually gently caress with my site just to gently caress with it. I ran that sucuri scan on loureads and got this quote:Malware entry: MW:DEFACED:01 So most likely someone who didn't like what I read or felt I might appreciate it for the "LULZ...." bleh EDIT 2: Well it looks like this happened a while ago. Like February. Dreamhost was able to find the hacked files. I'm deleting all the unused themes because thats apparently where these jazzholes hide poo poo. Some of the problem was my not knowing how to use noise reduction when I mixed it down. People tend to treat podcasts as periodicals rather than how I wish they would treat them, which would be like spoken word cds. What I mean by this is that it's rare someone explores a back catalog because they feel the content must be topical or that things constantly improve. This works well for some casts, like video game podcasts, where things are topical. But for shows like the ones I've done, episode one can be just as current and good as episode thirty. I've thought about going back and remastering everything but I just don't think the demand is there.

That's something that I'm always arguing with my brother about. He wants Those drat Ross Kids to be more topical, because he's not comfortable talking about himself. I'd rather it be more abstract and personal, because that seems more timeless. We've moved a bit more toward topical stuff recently, and the audience has responded well, but I'm really worried that we're selling out something that made the early episodes great. That said, I'm really proud of our audio quality, and I'm comfortable that we've reached a point we can be proud of there.

Here is the live episode I recorded over the weekend. I blankly stole an idea or two from some other live podcasts I listen to (doug loves movies, etc)for my new game. There wasn't a huge crowd but they actually filled out the room for the most part. The guests also seem to be a little thrown off by sitting 'panel style' with a bunch of people watching them. That being said I'm pretty drat happy with how it came out and the theater wants to have it back again which is always nice. Live Episode iTunes

That doesn't detract from the quality! I actually used my Blue Snowball that I keep at work. I'm really intrigued with new Yeti Pro and might pick it up. I also bought a refurbed m-Audio mic from a Woot deal. It was a piece of poo poo and isn't fully repaired. Wasn't worth returning.

I have my own RSS feed set up that I don't want to give up and I haven't gotten a chance to sit down and investigate how to do one without the other. I have been looking at google analytics and AWstats through my website and it's sort of a confusing nightmare as far as finding out actual subscribers. The individual files of my shows are accessed between 75 and 200 times during the month they premiere so, if that is an actual measure of how many people are subscribing, you're doing awesome! I'm 17 episodes in.

Christ, I swear our broadcast computer is trying to make me drink myself to an early grave. So we picked up a Roxio GameCap box so we could start doing game reviews when the mood strikes us. So our first show using it to review Yar's Revenge (http://bambuser.com/channel/Spankwagon/broadcast/1581926) went fine. No probs there. So with the new Mortal Kombat coming out the week after, we decided to do an off schedule episode to review the game. So we asked a local band that does video game music called Descendants of Erdrick to come in for an interview and help us review the game. The night before I check the system to make sure everything (three cams and the GameCap) was going to work. Testing went fine... just a couple of adjustments and everything was running smooth. Thankfully I had the foresight to check everything out again a couple of hours before the show, as for some reason the signal coming out of the GameCap was garbled as gently caress. So i spend thirty minutes trying to straighten that poo poo back out. Finally get it going again before our guests arrive. So around 20-30 minutes into the ep one of the cameras just decides it's going to take a nap. No reason... just goes offline. Good thing we had three cameras going. But the ep turned out awesome (http://bambuser.com/channel/Spankwagon/broadcast/1599574... you might want to let it buffer since I did quite a bit of pre-show music) and everyone had a good time. But this loving system... ugh. It's going to be the death of me, I swear.

I've created a podcast that's been going for a little while now called The History of The World. It's a comedy podcast and I've been trying to get feedback on it. You can find it at https://www.jamescolley.net I'd really love to know what people think. The latest one or The History of America are probably the best examples of how the show should be. Each ep is about 8 minutes. How do you check subscribers on iTunes?
