They don't have backups at all and some hdd failure modes allow you to recover some data, which is what they use as their retarded safety net, whereas this is a lot less likely to be possible with ssds because they tend to crap out suddenly and entirely without warning. Is what I took from that. e: also, in case of total failure, a specialist data recovery firm can get something back from platters, where they probably won't from a busted ssd.
