Interesting, Ian Cuttress from Anandtech is in a discussion on Twitter that AMD's Ryzen memory controller was a licensed IP block from an outside vendor, not developed internally. This is why they're dealing with so many optimization challenges.

There was a brief rumor of it in August because of a post on a Chinese site but it was never discussed in the mainstream.
