I'm hoping I can walk out with a 8 core beast for the same price as SB 2500K AND use both my nvidia cards on bulldozer.

That thin vector of the market who want 8 cores for the price of a 2600k?

If AMD dropped the 7970 by 100 dollars, I'd buy a card right now. Otherwise i'm buying a 680 when I get my hands on one.

I'd worry about cisco's main business focus being take away with SDNs then them trying to get a x86 license.

EdEddnEddy posted:Now the rear USB 3.0 ports on this X79... those are the finickyiest things ever. If they happen to stop working for whatever reason after a boot up.. You have to shut down and pull the power completely for them to come back into existence. That sounds like a bad grounding issue. Pull it out the case, boot it up on a boardboard box (or the plastic anti-static bag that came with it).

AMD is going the microsoft route, just put your poo poo everywhere and anywhere. See: SQL on linux, bash on windows, etc. I'm sure intel will go to lengths to hide they're using a different vendor, as seen in their SSD line where they use controllers from everyone (but saving the premium space for their own stack) but it's "intel".

It was insane for AMD to be devalued for so long, just don't be stupid and think it's going to hit 50 any time soon. Unless Zen shows up to be the "tru intel killer".

Anime Schoolgirl posted:Intel seems to be actually way more worried about the Zen core's potential in the server market though, the 1700 and 1800x non-XFR efficiency per core is better than Broadwell-EP and they're using a marginally bigger process. Desktop sales are rear end pennies compared to that market. I'd be loving worried as much as intel if they're going to hit compute times cheaper than intel. 4c AWS instances for the price of 2?
