Apocalypse dude

A pet photos thread, following the pet-based derailment of the gear thread.

To make this distinct from the similar threads in YOSPOS and elsewhere, I suggest that all photos be taken using at least one ridiculously expensive piece of kit.

I thought my ideas were so clear. I wanted to make an honest post. No lies whatsoever.

I should have put this in the top 10 photos:

photographic proof that dogs are better than cats

"Leao, a medium-sized brown mutt, lies next to the grave of her owner, Cristina Maria Cesario Santana, who died in the catastrophic landslides caused by heavy rain. This AFP/Getty picture was taken on Saturday, the second consecutive day that the dog refused to leave the woman's grave at the cemetery in Teresopolis, near Rio de Janiero.

We're in the business of extending man's senses.

I took this photo of my grandpa's cat, Mr. Boots, who passed away a week after he did. I took it using his old manual flash, and so far it's my only decent attempt at off-camera flash.

Pets are great subjects for getting to know a new piece of gear and experimenting. They rarely get upset when looking at the results of the shoot.

One of these days I am going to set up a 'jumping cat' shoot. The last time I tried I couldn't convince either of the stubborn buggers to jump at anything.

a still cat is more photogenic than a still dog, but I personally love all the expressions a dog's facial muscles can create

I'm not sure that your subject really understood what you were going for in this picture. It's not the most flattering angle, almost a Myspace one infact, as well as the DOF is a bit thin. His or her paws are a touch out of focus, and leave the viewer wondering if they really want to rub their little footsies or not. Also the grass in the lower left foreground seems to be more in focus than the subject. What did the subject think of this picture? I guess in situations like this, that's what is really important.
