So I packed up my Salvador Dali print of two blindfolded dental hygienists trying to make a circle on an Etch-a-Sketch and headed for California.
Ya'll should volunteer at your local animal shelter. They get pictures for adoption promotion; you get to take photos of concentrated adorable.

When my aunt picked him up at the spca I think they said a mix between a collie and a chow, but we aren't sure. He basically looks like a samoyed if they had gold hair and eyes.

Violates the rule, since both were taken with cheap 35mm cameras years ago. He's 16 years old now, has a huge limp, and barely gets around...unless he's trying to hump the German Shepherd, then he has LOTS of energy.

I've been doing this for a couple of months, which has been an interesting challenge for a guy who never really had many pets.

ExecuDork mentioned about this thread in the No Advice Dorkroom thread while asking about shelter photography (posted my answer here http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3188257&pagenumber=108#post387243747), and in turn, I come by this thread looking for ideas on how to mix things up and get some ideas about pet photography.

Here's a couple of samples from recently:

Obviously pre-Christmas, thanks to torgeaux for a good deal on the macro lens[1]:

And now, Obligatory Cats:

[1] - also got a good deal from krackmonkey on a lensbaby, no samples in this batch though

Hooray! I was hoping you'd follow up that discussion (in which I totally asked for advice :v: ) with some pictures of your work.

Is that just a big towel the cats are sitting on? Do the animals at the shelter have their own beds / bedding or other, um, personal possessions that you can use to help keep them calm and not freaked out by the lights and strangers?
