Let me introduce you to that mech http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Warhawk_(Masakari)

edit:

Thats right, customization even in the table top versions I played took months to do and most of the time by the time you got the change to it done, it was past the time it would have been useful. Stock is easier and unless you are doing omni versions there isn't much you can do to mech that some varient/type that hasn't done it before.

On a more serious note, BattleTech kind of falls apart when you start customizing mechs and making new ones. Without sticking to 'fluff' reasoning it becomes all too easy/tempting to make ubermechs (and omnis are about as close as I'd want to go toward that end).

That's pretty ironic considering that the original designs were just lifted from robot animes of the day (unless you were talking specifically about the mechs from the original 3055 TR, in which case I'd like to point out that all the non anime mechs in that book look even worse).

Most of the original ones looked a lot more 'war machine-y' than your typical anime mech, though.

Not sure which ones were included in MWLL, but the Panther carries a PPC (or ER PPC, depending on era) and is a pretty potent light mech.

^^^ Yes and no. Some of the 3050 designs (like the Hatamoto Chi) may turn up early (with some heavy tweaking), but it's more likely that we'll see a lot more Star League era designs once ComStar realizes how deep the poo poo everyone's standing in really is.

You'll also probably be seeing some of Clan Steel Viper's terrible specialist 'Mechs, like the Crossbow. And the Naga.

I wouldn't count on having clantech, even if you manage to salvage it. At least for now, we're probably going to be jumping around a lot. At least until everyone's gotten a feel for all of the great houses.

Yeah, having Clantech unless we're actually PLAYING a Clan would seem... markedly weird. I like Inner Sphere designs better overall, anyway.

Are you talking about the 3055 TR? Because the few mechs in there that are at least perspectively correct are the anime ones. If you're talking about the original battletech mechs, then I still don't see your point because all those were from macross or some other anime?

I'll need them when your turn comes up, and I'm going to give the voting at least 24 hours, even though the Kell Hounds have a pretty big lead. Right now, I'm working on balancing out some forces to make sure the first fight isn't a crushing victory for either side.

... Which is going to be difficult, because one of the 'Mechs I (semi-)randomly selected only has 1.5 tons of armor.

Yeah, I'm pretty much with this. Looking at Battletech and going "GRRRR ANIME IS poo poo" considering some of the most iconic mechs are directly ripped off from anime seems kind of... uh, dumb, frankly.

No I'm talking about the original 3025 ones (specifically the Unseen). The Warhammer is directly out of Macross but it looks anything but 'anime' IMO. But then again there's the Stinger/Wasp, Phoenix Hawk, Crusader... yeah.

It was a joke, BOLOS have nothing to do with BattleTech but are pretty awesome.

24 points of armor on a MECH? There's an actual design with that little armor somewhere? Unless you're talking about one of those bullshit protomechs I have no clue what it could be.

It wasn't the mechs, it was the poses. They made the Phoenix Hawk look like a Transformer. You'll pardon me for thinking that the dynamics of giant robot combat in Battletech has a distinctive feel that is extremely different from that found in anime, and that it's alright for someone to prefer the former to the latter.

And yes, everyone knows that the original lineup came from anime. Everyone. Except for those of us who know that the animes secretly stole them from Bolo.
