Battles in a 0-atmosphere environment are a nightmare, incidentally. 'Mechs are mostly filled with air (like balloons) and don't react well to hard vacuum or water infiltration.

I'd prefer not to put the actual numbers in, on the off chance it'll piss off Catalyst Games. The Jenner had basically no chance to hit (3:36 (still worth taking the shots)), the Vulcan had a slightly better chance but rolled pretty terrible (it happens).

It'd be identified if they actually had LOS on it at any point, but they haven't.

The dragon's on a level 3 hill. It's got line of sight, since heavy woods are height 2 and light woods are somewhere between height 1 and height 2.

“Scrambling comm. frequencies!” St. Croix announced in a sing-song voice, and then Desmond’s headset was filled with static. “—t’s better,” she was saying as his ‘Mech’s communication system linked with the rest of the lance. “That channel had far too many snakes on it for our well-being. Someone could’ve gotten bit!”

It was a typo. It was fixed on my master document, and then decided to unfix itself. I've said repeatedly in posts that it is a DRG-1N Dragon. The typo has been fixed. In the future, if my information is conflicting, it's generally safe to assume that a listed weapon's loadout is correct, especially if that loadout has been used.

The Capellans have leadership that's considered 'bad' because they tend to be very self-contained. Even Maximillian Liao was successful in stopping the slow destruction of his realm (which had been losing pretty constantly to the Mariks and Davions for over 200 years). Max Liao stopped that by forming several elite units and reorganizing his military into something a little more proactive.

Capellans do not have bad leadership. They do have problems, militarily, because their officers do not act without orders. That has been the major crippling factor for the Capellan Confederation, and it's something Sun Tzu eliminated pretty much entirely.

I don't want to have to add a new corrolary to Rule Omega. It's fluff for a game, it's polarizing. Discussions are fine, but it's nothing worth getting angry about.

He kicked down hard on his ‘Mech’s floor pedals, tripping the pressure-bar that activated the Blackjack’s jump jets and, with careful precision, leaned his ‘Mech backwards to sail over a small copse of trees and into some better cover.

“You’re not going to accept—” St. Croix began, but Barnes cut her off. “Damned right I am. It keeps the stupid meatball Drac’s attention on me and off the rest of you. The last thing I want is him taking potshots at your rear armor while you deal with his friends. Now—pull back a bit, and let them come to us. And get me on the channel with that damned—”

“You’re on, sir,” St. Croix called.

“Tai-i Robinson, or whatever your name was. I accept your challenge on behalf of the Kell Hounds.” To illustrate his point, Barnes popped off a salvo from his shoulder-mounted LRM rack. It missed low by a good ten meters, peppering a rockslide with explosions. Robinson had already moved well away from that position, but responded in kind.

“So,” the DCMS Captain replied, “we are fighting the ‘legendary’ Kell Hounds. That is good to know.”

Desmond sighed into the mic. St. Croix grumbled, “Goddamn it, L-T!”

A note on physical attacks: if they're one level higher than you, you can't kick them. If they're one level lower, you can't punch them. If they're two levels high or lower, you can't melee them at all (unless you want to intentionally fall on them).

Her questing flames must’ve found the Jenner’s ammo stores, because it exploded spectacularly, filling the comm. channel with static.

The Vulcan staggered as the ruby-red spear of a large laser took it in the back. Sandra tottered, then, overcompensating already, the shockwave from the Jenner must’ve skipped St. Croix’s gyro. Her Vulcan fell heavily onto its back, nearly snapping off its right arm in an attempt to soften the landing.

“Goddamn it,” Lt. Barnes cursed, “What sort of halfwit arms a scout ‘Mech with a large laser? That thing’s got to be tissue-paper. Desmond, I’m a little busy, kill that drac sonofabitch, would you?”

Funnily enough, the bigger the weapon, the less dangerous the ammo (since you have less shots, and can use the ammo more quickly). An assault 'mech doesn't really fear an AC20 ammo explosion; but everyone fears detonating machine gun ammo.

Yeah, it always has been. I've gone entire D&D games without rolling higher than a 5 on a d20.

It's why I prefer the 3d6 bell curve, personally. If you roll a 9 a lot, that's normal. If you a lot of 3s? Your dice are weighted, go get some new ones.

2 mp to make a pilot check to get back up. You have no negative modifiers, so it'd be a 5+ check. If you fail (somehow), you fall again and take more damage, but may continue to attempt to get up so long as you have enough walking movement.

The clans can deploy 'Mechs from orbit without ever landing a dropship via armored drop-pods. Everyone else has to either jump out of a dropship while it's in the atmosphere, or land the dropship (if their 'Mechs lack jump jets).

The Inner Sphere does not do orbital drops, period.

"Combat Drops" are extremely rare, and basically never done in the Inner Sphere right now because A) nobody's going to shoot up a dropship and B) jumping out of a dropship is a great way to lose an entire company of 'Mechs if someone fucks it up.

Needless to say, in the books? Combat drops are always successful and nobody ever dies.
