Society pilots are basically defined by being lovely pilots, right?

Yes, and they try to make up for it with their amazing gear. That's why forcing them to make lots of piloting rolls is a good idea.

Basically, you shoot better, take hits better, and will stay 100% functional until your mech is shot out from under you, and possibly still be combat-capable even then.

When their mechs are shot out from under them, they'll just detach their armor and keep going to town on people. There is no reason for the players to be anything but suicidally aggressive this mission.

The NRWR learned all the right lessons from Duncan Kalma.

Battletech is the most realistic sci-fi setting, where humanity conquered the stars so we could make all the same mistakes.

Basically whenever a writer or designer wanted to kludge together a new and "unique" setting and they couldn't find a way to kludge it into the Inner Sphere they just made up something in the Periphery, and usually no one noticed... until there were enough of these states that even the Periphery was starting to look pretty crowded.

If the Periphery is the only place to go where the SLDF never caused widespread ecological devastation, or just the only place to go to get away from the great houses and their wars, then that's where people are going to go.

Gunnery 5 though, the Society sucks at this stuff.

The Society are good at making things. They're bad at literally everything else.

If they want to all file out of the caves piecemeal into your gunline, you may as well let them.

Well, things could be worse for The Society. It could be the Clanners putting them down, and not the Legion. At least the Legion will make it quick.

So the Legion isn't planning to leave survivors. Are they just going to have their infantry sweep the area after and put a bullet in the head of everyone they find?

They are the infantry. Anything they can't deal with using AP Gauss, they can get out in their armor and kill personally.

Ammo explosions do 20 damage maximum, CASE reduces it to 10, CASE II reduces it to 1.

That's a big change in how crits work out. I see why, an ammo crit was always a big swing to the attacker.

Also, because RWR cyborgs in power armor are so loving terrifying, you guys swarm like an entire squad of elementals.

Don't the Sins have a terrifying vibroclaw or something? The swarm attack seems really underwhelming.
