I want a random orbit sander that's bigger than the 5" cordless. I'm open to corded electric or air tools. I'll do battery if it's bosch 18v but I don't want a new battery system. It looks like the corded 7 inch tools are polishers. The next size up is 8 inch and those all seem to be air powered. Does anyone have a good recommendation?

I have an electric Mirka 6” (actually they make a 5” pad for it too) and it’s the fuckin tits but it’s also like $700. Light, fast, great dust collection, just perfect. Almost makes sanding fun. It’s the same shape as a pneumatic one and I definitely prefer that shape, especially if I’m using it for long periods of sanding vertical surfaces. If you have a large enough compressor (sanders suck a lot of air, like 15cfm), they make a pneumatic version that’s significantly cheaper. I just got the electric one because I wanted to be able to take it to job sites if needed.

I'm stuck in a place where my milling tools are inaccessible and I've only got battery power. Hardware question: does anyone have suggestions for either suppliers or the right search terms for finding bighuge versions of table leaf locks like these: Need them for an upcoming idiot project to serve as exaggerated cabinet/box latches, but I'd like something like... 3" or ideally larger in diameter. The ones I linked are 2". To be honest, I'd prefer a bonkers exaggerated lock like something out of The Mummy: but I know that's a custom, expensive job that can't be justified for this stupid thing.

I have a couple of ecoflows and their fans are stupidly loud. I don't know how they compare to other brands but it's quite annoying when the fan kicks on. I'm using one in the bedroom as a battery backup for our internet modem and despite being plugged in at all times they kick the fan on once per day for a couple of minutes for some reason. Which is rather irritating when trying to sleep. I did find on google some people have managed to crack them open and swap the fan with something quieter that actually provides higher airflow but I haven't worked up the bravery to try it.

Maybe it is toned down in use though. We don't have power outages that often so I don't have a chance to hear them that often other than the weird daily fan that runs in the bedroom

Functional, yes. High-strength, no. It's supposed to be a lock/latch for the front of a box that will store records. It's not the kind of thing meant to be moved around but I'll be adding trunk handles to the sides just in case. Behold a .pptx mockup: Because the box will be about 15" on each side, I'm looking for a chunky latch and for ??? reasons I'm fixated on it being a round twisty kind

When I come up to a problem like yours my first inclination is to go to the second hand stores and find something with a latch/hinges/whatever I want and remove it from the thing and use it. Doesn't always work but can sometimes get you cool hardware for dang cheap.

I've definitely seen marine latches that look approximately like that, but you may have to content yourself with one that's a couple inches across or so, and that particular design is not going to latch an outward swinging door very well, it's designed to stop things pulling apart linearly. Round is easy, you could find something like a round cam latch without too much trouble, just depends how fussy you are about what it looks like

I suppose I could always hide some magnets in the panels to add holding strength. The look is fairly important since I'm going for an occult/doom metal thing with the box. But thanks for the suggestion -- I'll look into the cam latch category, who knows what's out there.

Yes that’s the newer version with a motion detector that eventually shuts them off after a while of no motion. They’re “fine”, in that they shut off when someone on my household forgets to switch off the garage lights at the switch, but they do dim after a period of no motion when I’m at the other end of the garage, and then I have to walk over and wave my hands to get them to go back to full power in the area I’m not working. I don’t ever use the remotes, but you can tweak the time out. If you want something that stays on forever, this isn’t it. I have 4 strung together, and they each operate independently, so it’s not like the whole garage goes dim at the same time.
