Depends on how you look at it. Pancrase, Shooto and RINGS were all doing their thing and other shows like Vale Tudo Japan were around as well. Thing is, MMA in Japan wasn't HUGE until PRIDE 1. Takada/Rickson was basically Griffin/Bonnar for Japanese MMA.
