Eh, I don't see it being particularly competitive. Imanari has never looked great against competent BJJ guys to my recollection, and even if he's on the Mach diet he'll be significantly smaller too.

They're banned by IBJJF: http://ibjjf.org/rules/

quote:

8.3.7
Use of any foot gear, head gear, hair pins, jewelry, cups (genital
protectors), or any other protector fashioned of hard material that
may cause harm to an opponent or the athlete him/herself is forbidden.
Also forbidden is the use of eyes protectors, even if they are
made for sports practices.

lol is he implying that Ray Rice's wife would have been ok if she trained? "avoid the knockout", jfc :psyduck:

Honestly I think BJJ is great but some of the marketing for it as self-defence is pretty disingenuous. I saw this video shared the other day by an acquaintance who runs his own club talking about how great it is for women to know how to do this stuff, as if the situation being depicted isn't pure fantasy that would probably end badly for all parties involved in real life.

Ringworm or the other fungal infections can be treated with a tube of Neosporin, or even with a bleach wash, but they can become chronic afflictions. Again, you’re best to see a doctor, because a misdiagnosis can cause problems.

Just to add, I've gotten ringworm a couple of times and used Lamisil cream -- It clears that poo poo right up. You can get it over the counter in the US, though unfortunately in Canada you need a prescription.

Apparently his opponent was cool with it but some other people flipped out about it.

It's a super weird non starter for normal people who are used to live sports, but one thing I enjoyed a lot about Lloyd Irvin's Kumite series was the format of the matches all being no time limit, but slickly edited down into highlights. It wouldn't work for every scenario but it's one way to make three hour long grappling matches watchable. I haven't rewatched it in years so my tastes may have changed as I've learned a bit more about grappling, but I remember it being pretty rad. Irvin is scum but I do wish someone would steal his idea for a less sketchy sequel.

Hah, I was just watching that the other day myself. Most of it is still online.

Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV9XemySmqo
Part 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woCzjhHsjJA (not sure where Part 3 went)

There's also some of the full matches uploaded. It was a pretty cool tournament, Irvin's scumminess aside.
Still hilarious when the one guy taps out of frustration because his opponent kept using the forbidden technique of grabbing his hands.

Lapels make it easier to choke people from the back, at least in my experience. It gives you something to grab onto and also the option of finishing with a bow-and-arrow which usually gets a pretty quick tap.

Sad news: Gordon Ryan suffered a nasty cut on the eyelid today during his last day of hard sparring in preparation for EBI 9. It has been tightly stitched and dressed but there is no way he will be able to compete on Sunday. He will be replaced by Garry Tonon. Gordon was already the smallest man on the card and Garry is a weight division below Mr Ryan, so this will be a tough assignment indeed.

quote:

Garry Tonon walks around at 167 pounds and could easily make the EBI 145 pound division (he does not, as we like to see Eddie Cummings rule that domain). This Sunday he will take in athletes coming down from up to 230-240 pounds to weigh in at 205 for EBI 9.

Well that's ballsy
