It's amazing what some people will throw away.

I know of two animes nominally about photography but they're both bad. (Flag and Speed Grapher) Does anybody know anything about the Canon Sure Shot? I'm looking for something cheap and small I can shove in a bag or coat pocket when an SLR is too bulky to carry around all day, and the Sure Shot seems like the cheapest f/2.8 compact available on ebay.

What about the Canon AF35ML (Super Sure Shot)? 40mm, f/1.9, $25 buy it now on ebay. And it looks like it's a little bit smaller than the original Sure Shot.

That might be good too... It looks like the lens and grip stick out a bit more, and it doesn't have the built in lens cover, but f/1.9 would be very useful. fake edit: Apparently it's loud and the AF isn't very good.

I have several Canon P&S cameras. I can dig them out if you are interested. They would be MUCH cheaper than $25. I'm talking $10 shipped. I'm currently in love with my Samsung ECX1. It is literally the Porsche of P&S cameras (Porsche designed the camera). Looks totally different but has lots of manual functions and 38-140mm Zoom. Oh did I mention it does Panorama on 35mm film? Got my XA2 - looks to be in near perfect condition. Shot a roll of 800, paid near 12 bucks to have it developed and the images to be put on CD, cried in the car as I went through the prints and found 1 maybe 2 shots that weren't horrible blurry messes. Granted everything was shot at night/at a concert and it took me a few shots to realize that I needed to wait and listen for the shutter before moving but still I didn't think I'd be so bad.

It's a P&S camera from the 80's with 800 film in it, I'm not quite sure what you were expecting there. Go outside during the day and take some photos.

You can pay to get the meter modified to read a stop faster (can shoot 1600), but for an XA2 I dunno if it'd be worth it.

I'm a big fan of my mju-II, but there is one thing that pisses me off about it, there is no way to permanently turn off the flash, every time I slide the cover open I have to turn it off again. I might consider getting rid of one of my serious cameras in exchange for a contax t3.

But as I said before; I think the added size and weight (and slow recharge) completely negate all of the major positives of the XA. Awkward Davies posted:I bought 400 speed and I've been shooting in doors. I'm guessing my first role on the XA2 is going to be a total waste. If it's not too dark you should be fine, I have shaky as hell hands and if I'm careful then anything above 1/30 turns out fine. Also, I pretty much only shoot 100 – pushed two stops to 400 – indoors and out.

I really want to get a small P&S film camera after realizing that while I love my DSLR it's loving huge and I don't want to carry it everywhere. Does anyone have any opinions on the Konica Auto S3? I'd rather not spend too much on this as film and developing is already going to be a bitch and I travel a lot and don't want to get it destroyed.

Does anyone have any opinions on the Konica Auto S3? I'd rather not spend too much on this as film and developing is already going to be a bitch and I travel a lot and don't want to get it destroyed. The Konica Auto S3 is not a point and shoot but rather a part of a different family of cameras known as Compact 35mm/compact RF, it was essentially designed to compete with Leica's Leica CL. While the Konica Auto S3 is an exceptional camera and a blast to use (with a really sick rangefinder), it is certainly not the only Compact 35 RF in the world, much as the XA2 is not the only point and shoot. The main difference being there's an Olympus XA2 in every corner of the globe for $60 or less, the Konica Auto S3 is actually somewhat rare and will typically go for $200 or more. Seeing as there's been a real interest in this thread in good compact 35s, i'll probably expand the OP to cover those in more detail in the coming week. That being said, the Konica IS a really nice system, if not for the weird battery issues (it uses obsolete and illegal mercury batteries), is freakishly tiny, and due to its rarity, you will probably have to buy another S3 for parts if you want it repaired.

Got my Konica Auto S3 today, a little more beat up than the ebay guy said it was, but I'm still stoked...now if only I could find a battery for it Also, for you guys who want to try and bid on this...supposedly a brand new never used or opened Konica Auto S3 original packaging and all; http://cgi.ebay.com/Konica-Auto-S3-35-mm-camera-never-been-used-/250780671630 edit; question "this website says posted:The Konica uses the much maligned PX675 mercury battery that is no longer available in the U.S. An alkaline or silver-oxide 375 battery will also work but the meter will read slightly fast, so you have to compensate using the ISO dial. The meter actually shows the F-Stop...and I control the shutter via a dial on the lens. Is the difference going to be negligible you think? I believe the replacement battery is .2 more volts so...should I shoot at an ISO setting one setting lower than the film's ISO? I mean... its kind of a big step from 800 to 400. The camera is Shutter Priority..so I guess it auto F-Stops for me. So I can either slow the shutter or change the ISO dial...but I don't know how much either way. I'm gonna write down my settings on each shot anyway and see the differences...but I'd like to know for sure. I'm new to real film. RizieN fucked around with this message at 02:24 on Mar 3, 2011 |
