Does anyone know if the Hearts monsters drop are gated by some sort of level and/or story progression? They've dropped really infrequently except for the basic Slime Heart for me, but I could just be unlucky.

Nearly 400 Drake Slimes killed and not a single heart. I've resigned myself to this fate.

Sadly, I've had to make do with hearts that have been present in treasure chests as I progress for my monster party. But now the main character is one of those Chimaera guys and that means I'm gonna be breathing fire on everyone. Hopefully it gets more than the first tier of the fire breath. I mean, Healslimes definitely didn't know Midheal or Fullheal, so I'm assuming this guy will also be stronger than the monster of the same name.

Have them in the inventory of someone and then talk to the Alltrades Abbey guy to become a monster class.

So wait what's this about evolving monster classes and stuff? Am I screwing myself here with going full ham on Monsters, or are all monsters just not able to drop their hearts with enough patience? Otherwise why would the Big Book of Beasts say they can? Is that why it was so easy for me to get Slime Hearts compared to the others? Should I be using them on the others? Why don't they explain this more in the game?

I'm very bothered by the game teasing me with Sir Mervyn coming soon but I can't do anything about it right this second. Don't give me all the hints and then just say "Okay, go do an unrelated island now!" Unless I'm dumb and there is a way to do it now.

The game told me there was a hot stone that could revive him, which is the Sizzling Stone Pike has. I go to Pike's house, he's not there. Everyone in town mentions the rich man Bulgio, but he's not at his mansion accessible by carpet either. He might have other houses throughout the land or something, cause he's so rich? The game really doesn't give me a good idea of where to go, but I know what I SHOULD be doing.

Okay, I haven't gotten to that point in my game, but going off my memories of the original one:
You've gotten the flying carpet I take it? Pike should be hanging out at the bar at the inn, and he'll say he sold the stone to Bulgio. At least in the original there's talk about how the guy is going on a world tour to visit all his properties. He's got mansions in Krage and Litorud. I don't know their new names yet. The places with the ranking contest and the yggdrasil dew. After finding out he's not in either place then he should appear at his mansion across from L'Arca, and you can convince him to lend you the stone.
I don't know why you can't just skip visiting the first two places when you know where he lives, JRPGS! I guess. For the last bit:
From there you can use the carpet to get to a tower in present day of the island you just unlocked that shouldn't be far off from where the minimedal guy is. Climb to the top and get your new manservant, I mean, legendary hero.

I can't believe I literally forgot that inns have pubs. Thank you so much.

After quite a bit of headache with constant Whack spells, I've managed to secure a Mimic Heart. My party is safe to continue on the journey with nobody getting redundant vocation experience. I wanted to get more hearts from the Lucky Panel game but whenever one comes up that I don't have I never win. It'd be awesome to get, like, the Well Wisher Heart... maybe tomorrow, after the next place.

Hitting a goddamn brick wall with Cumulus vex (HellCloud) and his friggin vaccum-vortex that hits everyone for 80-110 damage and how there's no pattern or rhyme or reason to his attacks: the first time I fought him he didn't use it until well into the fight, but the second time it was the first thing he did, how is that fair? And sometimes he uses it back to back and there's no way to recover from that. I guess I'd better grind.

There'll be a point where you can access Monster Meadows by simply walking to it on the overworld. You can technically already see where it'll be on the world map, even though the island isn't there yet. Once that happens, you can start making use of it. You're still some ways off from that point, so just enjoy the buildup you're creating.

Yeah, Monster classes and basic classes let you keep any skills you learn. Intermediate/Advanced human classes don't.

Personally, some things that have worked well for me so far;

Sailor levels up stupid quick and gets you a great free all enemy attack in Lightning at Rank 10 which makes grinding really easy.

You can find a Healslime medal right after you unlock class changing. Its In a treasure chest on the island with the flying carpet dude when he takes you to his secret storeroom shove Ruff into that until he masters it because it gets Heal, midheal, fullheal and multiheal which are fantastic on a character as fast as Ruff.

Drakeslimes make you really tough and you unlock the Drakeslime tablet through Haven right after Alltrades if you're dilligent about hunting new reisdents down. If you make Maribel one she learns a lot of breath techniques that help her save MP during dungeon crawls and gives her a ton of survivabliity for boss fights.

Mastering mage is totally worth it early on, Frizzle can nuke down bosses for quite a while and it masters really quick.

Chimaera monster will also give you Frizzle and the tier two Fire breath, while it's not as strong as the Drake Slime's ice breath it can still serve a good purpose as a free attack all enemies. Also you can get a lot of hearts from the Lucky Panel, I don't know if they're dependent on how far you've progressed through the game, but they're all pretty good ones. Jawtoise and Rockbomb in particular for both giving Kabuff, and the former giving Oomph to make boss battles go by much quicker. I just wish it was easier to get certain ones, I'm probably going to be farming a bit to try and get the Goodybag and Serial Quiller to see what they're all about, since the rest of my party is reaching mastery of their current ones quickly, and all the hearts I'm finding in chests are redundant.

I actually switched around Drake Slime and Healslime with your recommendations because Maribel's higher MP gives her more longevity to use Multiheal in tough fights, and she's no slouch on the speed department either. Ruff is better off doing support or crowd control in my experience.

I'm trying to get Serial Quiller hearts but unfortunately the enclosure they stay in isn't built yet so I can't just make them get a tablet for me even though that's totally possible. So I'm just fighting them in the overworld a lot. Up to 180 killed. If I get bored of this I'll probably switch to Lucky Panel once I get some decent cash flow going again, since I did only recently unlock the casino in floaty castle town. 100 tokens is pretty steep but usually a win will give me back the money I spent on all the losses.

I think Flying Knee does extra damage to enemies that are, well, flying. A lot of skills are crapshoots though. I wish they told me things like Stomp sometimes outright fails, or Harvest Moon does more damage against a single target as opposed to two, or maybe told me what spells/abilities using an item in-battle will give me before I spend inordinate amounts of money on buying it.

You need 5 to unlock it on all your permanent characters. You only need 1 heart/character and you can unlock intermediate and 'advanced' monster jobs much like you can human ones.

So, you can use a Drakslime heart to unlock the Drakslime class, or you could fully level Slime and Lizardman and it would pop up unlocked like Sage does when you fully level Mage and Priest.

It's a bad example though because you can't find Lizardman (Mandrake Major) until the part of the game I'm at. Probably the easiest combo you can do from what I'm reading is Kingfuschia, Chimaera, and Jawtoise to make Dingbat.

It sucks that I'm not allowed to go to the Haven at this point of the game unless I'm missing something. I definitely would like to try and grab some new hearts for combos, but I'm pretty much stuck with the classes I've got for the time being.

It might just be conjecture but have you tried actually finishing the dungeon?
