Geezus. My first time seeing them was their 20th anniversary tour. And I've worn earplugs to every single band ever since.

I’m a gen x’er born in 1977 so that video is great for some nostalgia berries. Doesn’t sound like KMFDM but I haven’t followed the evolution (or lack thereof) of Sascha K’s sound for 20ish years other than a bit here and there - but everything I did hear sounded basically the same. At least it’s different I guess. That other song that was just released was bad imo. Edit - Bring En Esch and Gunter Shulz back imo. Kaddish fucked around with this message at 20:57 on Jan 25, 2024 |

There must be some extremely bad blood there because it's hard to imagine Sascha not taking the money.

Speaking of 90s era KMFDM, the 1994 PIG vs KMFDM EP was just re-released and features a new version of "Brute" and a long lost cover of "Disobedience" by Watts, as well as a re-recording of "Secret Skin" featuring En Esch & Schulz. https://pigindustries.bandcamp.com/album/sin-sex-salvation-deluxe By far the most interesting "new" release involving KMFDM in years, to me.

New yelworC album! I've only heard one song from it and I'm keeping my expectations low, but I can't help but be happy whenever he releases anything.

However, between an acrimonious split, a fire that destroyed most of Peter Devin’s equipment, and label issues, yelworC hasn’t put out much. This new album is pretty good instrumental work that I’m assuming was partly supposed to be the Torture Trail album that never got finished. Very atmospheric as they tend to be as well as very rhythmic.

I was absolutely hanging on to them out of nostalgia for a long time, so I think my vote is for Tohuvabohu as worst, for being the first of the "listened to it approximately once and memoryholed it." I remember being excited for it and then so so so disappointed. There's so much of their discography at this point that I've just never bothered listening to.

Of the ones I’ve listened to, Money. Half the album is filler. The original plan was that Sascha would write half and En Esch the other, but the label rejected En Esch’s songs for being poo poo. That was stuff was later released as a solo album. Hence, a bunch of remixes and filler to pad it out to album length. Listerine posted:I guess it depends on what you define bad as being. I like some of the post 2000 albums so it seems silly to not include those in the worst albums, because Tohuvabohu was an incredibly boring album that made me lose interest in the band. Other industrial projects have managed to put out decent to good stuff after their glory days. I don't like most post reunion Skinny Puppy but I love Weapon. FLA has some really boring albums but I like IED and Wake Up the Coma. Ministry... uh... I like two songs of Mole? Haujobb puts out interesting music almost every time, there's plenty of old bands putting out good stuff. KMFDM and Ministry just basically stopped... and yet I will probably see both on tour this spring.

I just looked up Xtort to see the tracklist since I haven't listened to it since the year it came out, and apparently this was their highest charting album. I didn't think it was very good at the time and it was particularly disappointing since Chris Connelly was on it. That is, I was particularly disappointed when it wasn't very good, since I like Connelly a lot and had hoped his involvement would have improved the final product.

XTORT was my first KMFDM album, so I’ll always have a special place in my heart for it. But, yeah KMFDM is/was/always will be Cheesy - which is also the name of En Esch’s solo album.

XTORT was right around the height of old KMFDM popularity so I'm not surprised it had some chart success. Nihil is the best KMFDM. Naive was one of my first industrial shows, I got in underage. Also went to a Money show and I think Angst. Chemlab opened for one of them, we got to talk to Jared Louche after. Fun times. Kaddish fucked around with this message at 14:53 on Feb 6, 2024 |
