Anybody going to the Covenant show in NYC on Thursday, or know about the venue? It's at Santos Party House, and like most venues around there, I've never been. Last show I "went" to in the Lower East Side was to see Statiqbloom on a weeknight; it was a tiny dingy little basement bar called Home Sweet Home, and I just said gently caress it and left before they went on (sometime after midnight, apparently). So I'm looking to avoid that experience.

I don't hate that track, but holy hell if that isn't a middle finger to Alice Glass."Ethan Kath's now-removed description on the track posted:i wish my former vocalist the best of luck in her future endeavors. i think it can be empowering for her to be in charge of her own project. it should be rewarding for her considering she didn't appear on Crystal Castles' best known songs. (she's not on Untrust Us. Not In Love, Vanished, Crimewave, Vietnam, Magic Spells, Knights, Air War, Leni, Lovers Who Uncover, Violent Youth, Reckless, Year of Silence, Intimate, 1991, Good Time, Violent Dreams etc.). people often gave her credit for my lyrics and that was fine, i didn't care. my interest in listening to new Crystal Castles has diminished rapidly with every new video and picture of the band since Alice Glass left. 'Deicide' was alright, I guess. Also the only "witch house" I've enjoyed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GVl4vduI8A edit: some new vaguely electro-industrial that I've been digging lately https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=facG8Lyv3Yk Bayham Badger fucked around with this message at 03:24 on Aug 22, 2016 |

Failed Nihilist posted:So I loving hated Combichrist's latest album. It seems like they're trying to dip into the Hot Topic metalcore crowd. Can anyone recommend some good metal-ish aggrotech in lieu of them? I've found Nitronoise to be pretty similar. Some Gesaffelstein maybe? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRSijEW_cDM Video is mildly nsfw for titties. Reminds me of Joy of Gunz and Everybody Hates You era combichrist, a bit.

I still like Embryodead and Wreath of Barbs, but those were my introduction to wumpscut, and to some extent the genre. But wumpscut was probably one of the first bands where I learned fast not to be too excited when I found something new of his in the ever-shrinking industrial section of the record store. I think the only PIG I wouldn't start with is the newer stuff, partially because he leans on references to older tracks and otherwise just sounds schlocky without meaning. If you like the Thirwell, you should probably check out the early PIG stuff like Poke in the Eye with a Sharp Stick and poo poo for Brains, since Thirwell remixed a few of those tracks and worked on them. (Also Thirwell's/Foetus Corruptus album Rife features Watts on bass, credited, I believe, as Ray Scaballero). But ultimately, there is no wrong answer for PIG listening. Maybe the PIG v Sow stuff. Never really got into that. PtL, Wrecked, Sinsation and the Swining/RRS are for sure the go-to, but even the one-off PIG v KMFDM ep and the newer PIG/Primitive Race stuff is fun. The Prime Evil & Stroll in the Pork EPs have some good covers as well, and I've always been a sucker for Raymond's take on 1979. david_a posted:Is it actually available for purchase anywhere? Basically no - I'd imagine that a lot of his older stuff is in intellectual property hell and will likely not see re-releases anytime soon. You might have slightly better luck looking for the re-released version that also includes the Red, Raw & Sore EP. But I spent about $40 when I tracked that down and bought it about 12 years ago.

trip report from HEALTH: - it's all loving good - so loving good - can't wait to see them live with youth code - slaves of fear and strange days (1999) are far and away best - god botherer and black static close behind - it's all good

downward spiral and year zero are extremely good concept albums that i still revisit tracks from regularly, as they hew disturbingly closely to the dystopian hellscape we live in.

Posting from inside the NYC leg of the 3TEETH tour. GosT was fine, if not unengaging. A&P setting up now, I'm very excited to see his insane rig in action.

Yeah A&P was loving awesome. Really cool to watch him perform with that set-up. Very much a counterpoint to the old "live electronic music? those guys are just hitting play on their macbooks" trope. Didn't get a chance to talk to Tristan, but it seemed like he had a lot of friends supporting him in the audience. 3TEETH was great. Alexis has buff leather daddy Kevin Kline looks mixed with Jared Louche-esque audience report and it was just great. Finished off with President X in costume. Excellent show overall.

I'm not familiar enough with them to say, and to be honest, they had some audio balance issues throughout their set that made it difficult to really distinguish much. They started off with some pseudo-thrash-metal stuff, transitioned to more dance-able synthy EBM stuff and then finished out with more aggressive metal stuff, if that helps.

it's kind of annoying that the infectious bubblegum dance pop component of her shtick seems to have been a contribution from her dipshit abusive collaborator who she jettisoned finally. I want to like the new stuff but it's just a bit too ... same-y I guess? I Disagree had some great highlights though, but even that felt weaker and less transgressive than Am I Girl? overall, in spite of it having a lot more teeth.

To avoid confusion, I would simply write "Don't be blind. This is not a pro-Faschist project" on the back of my aggrotech album that heavily borrows fascist imagery and lyrics, with absolutely no meaningful commentary.

i was being glib there. as i understand it, aggrotech was an astroturf genre created by dark-electro acts that wanted to come up in google searches in the early 2000s because it turns out it's hard to find much when you've named your project things like "xp8te," "antagonoize," and "suicide bomber."

My current views on KMFDM pretty much align with the recent interview with Raymond Watts in which he basically memoryholes Sascha and talks about how great it was to work with En Esch. In terms of listening to them actively? A handful of tracks off of Nihil, Xtort and Symbols are on my workout mix.

They've mostly been making me want to play and listen to the soundtrack to Doom 2016, which makes sense given Mick's residency with the band at this point. But yeah I've found them kind of boring compared to their first album and the h09909 collabs.

for a while my Spotify mixes were constantly trying to get me to listen to that godawful song he did with Grimes under the moniker "Euringer," which got me to look up who he was, as I have long completely and willfully ignored MSI on aesthetics alone, and that's when I learned he was a huge loving creep. Speaking of Grimes, the new Poppy singles have some interesting industrial-adjacent sounds, looking forward to the new album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvDd8XnECEg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag3L1fBPo54 I enjoyed her delve into chunky guitars a few years ago but this sounds better to me.

Speaking of 90s era KMFDM, the 1994 PIG vs KMFDM EP was just re-released and features a new version of "Brute" and a long lost cover of "Disobedience" by Watts, as well as a re-recording of "Secret Skin" featuring En Esch & Schulz. https://pigindustries.bandcamp.com/album/sin-sex-salvation-deluxe By far the most interesting "new" release involving KMFDM in years, to me.
