EK Product is releasing my first official album. It's called Revenant. Do I put that in the goon self-promotion thread?

boo_radley posted:and here, hype it up! It releases November 26th! It's half a compilation of stuff I've been working on for 20+ years and half new stuff that I've been mostly working on in quiet since I moved to Tokyo. But I finally found a label that is enthusiastic about what I do, so I'm excited even though it feels surreal and I know I have a lot of work to do to get as many ears on it as I can. the label's page for it is here: http://www.ekproduct.com/releases/tangent-strategy-revenant/

One last post about Revenant, if you can please excuse me for my enthusiasm. My record label said this about it on their Facebook page: "We're back! OUT november 26th 2021 "REVENANT" by solo underground act Tangent Strategy, US electro-industrial-power noise project based in Japan. A hymn to softwares, a triumphant succession of industrial, ebm, powernoise harmonies made up according to the episodes of cold midtempo drum programming lines, effervescent punctuation of sequencers, disturbing transmissions, electronic vortexes, caustic frequencies, cosmic effects, unadorned synth symphonies and vocals ranging from threatening harsh emissions to poisonous reverberated whispers. GET READY " It's not what I would have thought to say about myself but I appreciate it! The distribution is being handled by Audioglobe so it should be worldwide and go to the normal industrial music specialist retailers, but I'll have a few copies for sale too once the release date hits and if anyone is interested, just throw me a PM.

Danger - Octopus! posted:Hey this sounds like very much my poo poo, will def look out for the release! Does the label release digitally through bandcamp do you know, or just their own site? EK Product does have a Bandcamp but not all of their releases are on that page, and most of their artists maintain their own bc pages separately. Their emphasis is on physical releases and they primarily distribute through Audioglobe, an Italian label/distributor, so probably the usual suspects of industrial music online stores will have it for physical purchase.

Quick question for you all. I'm coming up with ideas for a live show on my own (albeit, to be staged well after the current pandemic wave!), but since it's just going to be me, it's going to be very difficult to come up with a compelling show if most of my content is pre-recorded. So, what is it that makes a good industrial live show for you guys? Is it atmosphere, vibes, the vocalist's attitude, or the energy in general? I don't know many single-act live performers aside from Dirk Ivens of Dive (and world's end girlfriend if you stretch it outside industrial), and all the bigger studio project bands tend to hire guys just for the live show. Curious to see your answers!

Thanks! That actually really helps because it gave me some things I hadn't thought about before, which I'll roll into my performance. I do plan on a visual component but I don't plan on anything taken from fiction or anything particularly graphic. It's still preliminary but I have a thought about what to do, it's just finding the right clips and then stitching them together. The last time I watched a show with projections was with Manufactura and Converter way back in 2003, but the projections were not connected to the music. Oddly enough, the thing that inspired me the most to use projections was a YouTube clip of Genocide Organ in the early 00s, so I'm supposing the best course of action is to use projections that do not time to the music, but do flow with the stage. If all goes to plan, I'll be doing my first show at a Japanese club, which has its own set of issues but we'll see how it goes.

This reminds me of the one time in the late 90s I asked Suicide Commando in an email some advice on what equipment to procure (at the time I had some guitars and a 4 track but no synths and Mac OS 8 didn’t seem to have freeware trackers as a means to get on the path of sampling and sequencing). He recommended the Access Virus. Kinda glad I never did go down that route.

The head of the EK Product record label revealed today that he had been in a very nasty motorcycle accident back in September and nearly lost one of his arms in the process. Now, he's encouraging all the artists on the label to find new homes if they have completed projects while he rehabilitates because he can't run day to day operations on the label at the present time. I wish him a speedy recovery, but in the meantime, I don't know what to do. I've had a finished album since February.

Does anyone have a decent list of industrial sites/magazines/blogs and DJs? I'm looking to push hard into self-promotion mode for my next few EPs since I cannot release a CD at the moment. I want to get my Bandcamp follower count over 50, maybe 100 even!

I finally dropped my newest EP today! It is called WASURENAKATTA. https://tangentstrategy.bandcamp.com/album/wasurenakatta-ep And yes, it has a manga style cover because I asked Bing "what kind of images do you think of when you hear 'Wasurenakatta?'"

Lead out in cuffs posted:https://www.idieyoudie.com/ I have submitted to them, haven't heard back yet but I expect they're busy so no big deal if I don't. I've also communicated with Side-Line, given they reviewed my CD (7.5, I'll take it!), as well as Regen Magazine, the synth.nu place as suggested above, and a couple other smaller blogs that don't seem to update regularly. The one place I haven't tried is Brutal Resonance, since the lead editor seems to be pretty strict with what he covers and only covers most Bandcamp stuff in threads on their Facebook. Plus with their wading into the Kanga/Mr. Kitty/Artoffact drama, they seem like they want to do more opinion pieces now than reviews. I'm also concentrating on DJs because they're where people in the scene really get to hear new stuff, so I don't mind throwing a few yum codes their way, even if they're primarily Mixcloud or Twitch streamers. Y'all goons my people, and I have more than enough yum codes so if anyone wants one, PM me and I'll throw one at you.

I feel like I'm the only person who really enjoyed Filth Pig (except for the last two tracks, could do without that awful Bob Dylan cover especially). Dark Side of the Spoon was awful though and I haven't felt like listening to anything of theirs ever since.

I'll concede I'm a little too hard on those last two tracks, but I'm glad to see more folks sticking up for that album than in years past. I have, however, listened to Lead Into Gold since Paul Barker restarted it and I enjoyed that.

It's been always funny how the movie studio lawyers never went after musicians the way the song publishing rights' lawyers went after phrase sampling. Imagine how much more debt Velvet Acid Christ would be in.

New yelworC album! I've only heard one song from it and I'm keeping my expectations low, but I can't help but be happy whenever he releases anything.

Serotoning posted:This is sweet, as someone still pretty new to E/I I really enjoyed this. yelworC is one of the legends, for the longest time even in the Napster and Audiogalaxy days their stuff was near impossible to find (I felt super lucky when I found CD copies of Brainstorming and the Blood In Face single and it definitely influenced my own music). However, between an acrimonious split, a fire that destroyed most of Peter Devin’s equipment, and label issues, yelworC hasn’t put out much. This new album is pretty good instrumental work that I’m assuming was partly supposed to be the Torture Trail album that never got finished. Very atmospheric as they tend to be as well as very rhythmic.

Can’t talk about movie samples without mentioning Velvet Acid Christ. He was so lousy about it, one poster on rec.music.industrial said something to the effect of, “congrats to VAC member Brad Pitt on the success of his new movie.” The song “Pray For Life” for example is ruined by samples from a mid thriller from the 90s called Extreme Measures, and hearing Hugh Grant in the middle of a song is so goofy. In the last few years, I’ve been starting to use vocal phrases again, but not from movies. Reality lately has been way too wild for me to sample from movies.

I did a cover of No Shuffle like 20 years ago for a goon compilation album that ended up being a theme album to which the cover didn’t fit. 242 is a staple in my life and it’ll be a shame that I’ll never have gotten to see them live (I live in Japan, and I don’t have the funds for an international trip to see them).
