ExplodingSims posted:Here's another thread necessity, the classic American Engine, the 4-4-0. The train that built the West. There's a few Baldwin Locomotive catalogues from that era on the Internet Archive. They are fairly large PDFs but they are pretty awesome. http://www.archive.org/details/baldwinlocomotiv00baldrich http://www.archive.org/details/illustratednarro00baldrich

Gorilla Salad posted:Olden days version: The loading ramps this one used are still extant on the Windsor side of the river. They're right in front of Caesar's. Enclosed ferries were used for cross lake routes. This is the Marquette and Bessemer no. 2. Note the lack of a stern gate. This was probably a liability when they sailed out into a gale on Lake Erie in 1909 and disappeared. A bunch of debris and lifeboat full of frozen dudes turned up but the ship is still missing. There are probably thirty rail cars still on the wreck.

This derailment happened in Hamilton, Ontario in 1953, close to the centre of the city. There's a mural of this image on a building near where it happened. Fornax Disaster fucked around with this message at 17:43 on Mar 30, 2019 |

TITANKISSER69 posted:Offhand, I do know that their new streetcars have been somewhat of a fiasco with Toronto Transit, with many being delivered very late and some having to be sent back. The Toronto Star did a major investigation into the streetcar fiasco. They mismanaged the supply chain badly with parts arriving late or out of spec. They outsourced a lot of the welding work to a plant in Mexico so that they could keep the bid low and then failed to properly train or retain the workers there. https://projects.thestar.com/bombardier-ttc/index.html

I took a ride on the mighty Portage Flyer this summer. This locomotive pulls two open carriages on a one way 1km route out of the Muskoka Heritage Park in Huntsville, Ontario. The train was originally run on a mile and half portage route between two lakes to link steamboat services together. The engine was originally built for a gypsum quarry, the carriages are converted trolleys.

Oh boy, National Steel Car. They’ve been in the news a bunch here in recent years because they had three workplace deaths in two years. Look up Google Reviews for them, it’s full of employees giving them one star and describing working conditions in detail. https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6499094
