Just got a pair of Reebok 4K inline skates today. They're nowhere near my ice Grafs, but they're pretty good nonetheless.

I also just found both an ice rink and a public outdoor roller hockey rink both ~10 minutes from where I'm stationed. Today was a good day.

I'm with you Henrik Zetterberg, I ordered Bauer X:20 inlines thinking the boot was thermoformable like the ice hockey version. I was wrong. I've had blisters on my ankles since (been two weeks, 4 sessions at 2-3 hours a piece).

Can anyone offer advice on prevent blisters at the top of the boot? My inner ankles rub and blister on both sides at the top corner of the boot. I tried making sure the tongue was over it, which relieves the pain from the boot but still results in blisters. Extra/longer socks don't help either. It really starts to inhibit my game through the second period, especially if we don't have enough bodies for subs.

Try these. They basically adhere like a second skin, and they work well.

The best thing I always just try to do when I'm in a slump is to just not think about it, or anything for that matter. I tend to overanalyze the game and play a bit more rigid and tight when I'm in a scoring slump. But if I just clear my mind, just read and react, I usually find that works. The way you reference your issues with your slap shot issues sounds like this may be what you're doing. Just rip it.

Don't think of them as crossovers. Think of them as crossunders. Instead of stepping your outside leg over your inside leg as you turn, which will cause you to kind of over-rotate and stomp on the ice, you should be thinking of pushing your inside leg under your outside leg.
Listen to this man, because he's spot on. The direction you want to go in is the leg you want to cross under with.

Our pick up game was after a Bantam AAA game last week and it was like trying to skate on the surface of the moon. I asked the rink guy if the zamboni was hosed up and he told me he would have to just scrape it 2-3 times and then flood it before it was "good" again.
I hate when that happens. What's worse is when they won't even resurface it at all after a figure skating practice. Divots galore.

I went out and bought white laces for my inline skates, because they originally came with black laces. For some reason, I don't like black laces. I'm the same way with stick tape for ice; I must use white tape on the blade.

Am I just weird?

I actually stopped using tape on the butt end years ago. Tacki-Mac grips work great, and have given my gloves better longevity. This is the same model that I use:

Has anybody used the Reebok Edge hockey socks? Are they any better than traditional knit socks?

Grafs are expensive but they're worth it. My pair cost me a bit over $400 US back in 2001, and from the minute I put them on, I never had so much as a sore spot or a blister on my feet. There was literally zero break-in time. I'll probably be buried in them.

I do believe though that I did get them baked. Make sure to get that done if they still do that.

What sucks about that is if it's like every summer league I've ever played in ever, there's always a team or two where players just stop showing up and dress like 7 skaters. Good times.

Sergei Fedorov, the original Nike Hockey poster boy, disliked their skates so much he wore Grafs with Nike branding. However, he did like money.

Bought a new set of Eagle gloves just for roller hockey. I have a pair of X70's that I use for ice that I love, but I decided to go cheaper since I don't play roller often enough to justify it, nor do I want to ruin my ice gloves.

So far they're decent, but I can definitely tell a difference in build quality, with the X70's being superior, but not by a whole lot. I still need to break the new ones in a bit more.

Anyone here even play HNA and make it out to the finals?

I think the real finals (A league?) is in vegas. That's most likely even better.
I played HNA a couple of years and we lost in the finals my last year. My uncle had played on the team and got to go to Vegas one year for it. He said it was fun, but the rink was in a casino basement and the ice was so bad it was almost down to the bare concrete. Things have probably changed though.

Speaking of bags, I bought a backpack a few months ago and I like it very much. The only downside is that it's on the small side, but I like it. It has skate pouches and a helmet pouch on top. It's similar to this one.

Picked up a new helmet because my Bauer 4500 was getting a bit small width-wise on me.

I ended up buying an Easton E700, and let me say, it's the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. I've been wearing CCM and Bauer helmets most of my 20 years playing.

I nearly bought an S19 instead, but the shape of my head didn't quite jive with it and it seemed to be pressing down on the very top of it.

The E700 from what I can tell is a refined version of the S19. The big noticeable difference is the adjustment systems are different. They definitely feel different on my head.

Hey how do you guys tape your blade and why? All my life I've either taped the full blade, the toe like Ovie, or just the middle like Lindros and Kane. Honestly, I can't really find any sort of discernable difference except when theres none on the toe I have problems toedragging, which I guess would be an obvious one. I'm trying to figure out the real methodology for it.

Yeah, I do the same the length of the blade nowadays for preservation reasons. Blades are expensive :saddowns:

Because our league director hosed up and can't get our winter session going until January 22nd they put on an open hockey session just for guys from my (low-level) league and it was a total blast. I guess I didn't appreciate how much fun pickup can be when there aren't teenage hotshots trying to go end to end constantly.
There's one local rink where I'm at and a local college plays out of there, and they always show up to the open hockey sessions, and they're complete douchebags when they're out there because they won't play with anybody else and they think they run the place. They'll go to one end and gently caress around, and don't dare go near them. One of them got hostile with me once right off the bat because my puck went to their end, and a dude thought I was trying to steal one of their pucks, even though they saw what happened.

They're not that loving good anyway, I can out-skate most of them and I stopped playing on a regular basis 3 years ago. Fuckers.

As somebody else said, I wear a full cage because I don't trust the people around me to keep their sticks down, especially in beer league. A few years back I got popped in the nose badly by somebody trying to lift my stick up and missed horrendously. Bled like crazy, luckily no break and I came back to play once the bleeding stopped. I am awesome.

But yeah since then I wear a cage for games.

Also, have just a little bit of slack as you go, maybe an inch over the length of the side you're about to apply tape to. That'll help you control it better. If its not to your liking, just pull it back up and reapply.

New stick update :toot:

Picked up a one-piece Bauer Supreme One60 this morning, with a Backstrom curve and 77 flex. I cut about 2.5 inches off of it so it's more like an 85 now. I just got back from using it at drop-in tonight. So far so good, it's got a good, solid feel and it's light and balanced. It's one of their mid-range sticks, setting me back only 100 bucks. I'm still awaiting a blade+shaft combo in the mail but I'm most likely going to return those once they arrive. I'm very satisfied with this purchase, and considering Bauer's top end sticks are over 220 dollars, it's an excellent compromise of price without losing a lot of durability and performance.

edit: And I just confirmed that in the midst of my hangover this morning, I got a 3/8" hollow on my skates rather than a 5/8" :ughh:

No wonder why I was chattering everywhere when I would try to stop
