This is right up my alley. Bass and drum stoner/psych? You bet!

I've liked Greenleaf for a long time.

The Steve Harris machine gun move the daughter requests in the video is something that was initiated by Lemmy, not Steve.

Regardless, it's a cool video. Thanks for the heads up.

today I learned about a band called Daevar that appears to be an exact clone of Windhand, like they sound exactly the same, it's kind of impressive. I legit thought they were covering Windhand songs.

I'm digging it. The opening with the organ, all of Aaron's wacky guitar poo poo, and of course Brian Cook's bass and Nick Yacyshyn's drumming keeping it all together.

Don't press play
Saw Sunn O))) for the first time tonight, and wow what a sound they make - from the off I could feel every organ in my body. They played continuously for 50 minutes, then played another track.

Their lighting setup was also really cool - not sure if it was a laser setup but it really looked like a thin slice of light moving around that would cut you in half like the Red Queen corridor trap in the first Resident Evil film, as opposed to a beam of light. And combined with the copious smoke, the three lights looked like little suns with clouds floating in front of them.

The support act was good too, Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter - a trio playing acoustic, electric and bass guitars who ended their set with five minutes of gnarly feedback.

Man, I miss seeing international bands :(

the promoter that focuses on stoner and doom is pivoting to lovely local speed metal has-beens on constant tours and supposedly has some shady dealings going on the financial side that has soured a few bands ever coming back.

we got brant bjork coming out in a week or two but he doesnt count, his solo work is garbage.

wish we could get Sunn, Yob, HoF/Sleep, monolord, ufomammut, windhand, cough to come back, but the promoter that brought those guys out used his position in the scene to try and gently caress 16yo girls so all those bridges got burned.

I guess I just need to keep an eye on flights and US/EU festival lineups and go and get a big dose of all these great bands at once.

but the bands we have here are all fantastic, so theres no shortage of good shows to go to. its not all bad.

I like exactly one live version of one of his songs.

Kyuss absolutely became more than the sum of its parts. I dont think anyone besides Homme and Scott Reeder have had the same level of success outside the band and only one of those people is someone worth admiring as a human being.

John Garcia did Unida (with Reeder for a little bit I think) which had a decent album although a lot of his work is miss rather than a hit.

I have a hard time picking a number one favourite album (well, it's probably the same for everyone else unless you exclusively listen to one genre or subgenre of music) but I think Dead Roots Stirring would actually take my number one spot because I can listen to that album at any time, over and over again, and never get tired of it. Whereas with other albums that I really enjoy, I find that I have to be in a certain mood to listen to them. Like I'd probably put Converge's Jane Doe in my top 3 albums ever, but I'm not always up for listening to something that aggressive.

its a great one. Addicted to Black Magick into Preacher Electrick is like my favorite opening punch in stoner doom. real perfection of the form.

listening to Huntsmen and their two albums are decent and feels like if they get it really right a third could be truly great. reminds me of a doomy take on Cobalt but without quite the same punch.

Good eye, those are microtonal frets. The double-neck was made by Dunable, here's a post they made about it a few years ago:

quote:

We made this double neck JM bass/guitar a few years ago for @jeffmatz.77 of @highonfireband and today we refretted it with small banjo wire and in a microtonal layout which is SICK and now it’s heading back to Jeff to get some eastern shreds going.
