The Jesus
Good morning from April 19th. Had a nice cup of coffee, and now a little Bongripper for breakfast. With some High on Fire for dessert. Today is a good day.

I wish. My girlfriend's from there and we try to visit once a year but we couldn't line it all up for the show. I still haven't been to the Metro or Empty Bottle :(

The new Taylor Swift album was boring AF, but fortunately the new HoF hits the ground running. Hell yeah.

Im working for record store day (in a record store) and I plan to be playing HoF/Taylor/Bongripper/for my shift, with the full knowledge that the swifties will be the first customers through the door.

I know theres a ton of other poo poo out in every genre but gently caress em.

Bongrippers last few have all sounded massive and it's kinda amazing they can keep pushing each one bigger than the last.

Do they ever take a break? Seems like Boris comes around at least once a year. Not complaining at all, pretty great to be able to see a Japanese band that often.

What's the deep end part of it? His own statement just sounds like he wants to do his own thing.

E: sounds like he was a conspiracy nut from what I can gather!

Conspiracy nut, a bunch of antivax stuff, selling a line of clothes with guns and freedom on them is what I found just on Instagram.

drat, I just found out that Acid King plays here in Copenhagen on May 8th.

I got to know this band through this thread, and it's still one of my favorites in this genre, so I'm pretty stoked.

I listen to every band/track being posted here, and a lot of them are not really me (growling/screaming just doesn't do it for me), but I was wondering if there were any other bands like Acid King that are worth looking into, like newer bands and/or less known outside their local area, but with the same heavy, slow riffs, and if vocals are present, the same style where it's a clear singing voice?

Windhand is the obvious one, Ruby the Hatchet if you want to keep on the female vocals but musically its more rock-driven - Their Valley of the Snake LP is probably the closest to Acid King.

Blackwater Holylight is pretty good for easygoing doom. Electric Wizard too, but maybe that’s obvious. Kadavar is a little more rockish but kinda fun, I’ve only really listened to Abra Kadavar though.

I’m always open for more stuff with less harsh vocals, mostly because my gf can’t stand the harsher stuff. She’s fine with heavy music, bands like Dragged into Sunlight are fine until the vocals kick in. So I try to find a nice middle ground.

there was a period of a whole lot of sort of similar sounding female-fronted doomy/occult rock/Sabbath clone bands popping up around 2010. the only ones I still really listen to are Blood Ceremony, Electric Citizen, and Purson but there are legit so many.
