I can kind of see that for some of them, but Dopelord? Their first album is a little weak, but I'd chalk Black Arts, Riff Worship & Weed Cult up there as a modern classic.

Any Boston-area goons, there's a doomfest going on at O'Brien's tonight at 8pm. My buddy's band Sea will be opening, pretty excited to finally get a chance to see them.

Still need more riff-heavy instrumental stuff. I feel like vocals just doesnt suit a lot of stoner/doom metal, or the vocalists are terrible. Vocals I can tolerate if its more towards the rock end of the spectrum (Elder, Sleep) Mostly I am finding some of the suggestions in here recently good musically but end up turning them off as soon as the vocals start. They just sound like slower black metal, and I loving hate black metal.

Saw Vile Creature Saturday night in Boston. I have to say, it was some pretty heavy poo poo, and not just musically. The guitarist/vocalist has been through some awful poo poo in his life, and it comes through in the music. He's very up front with it all, and it's nice to see something genuinely angry and sad and hateful, not just something made up. It's some slow, mournful doom, and I was pretty moved by it watching them live. If you get a chance to see them, do it. Talk them up afterwards. It's worth it, I think. Here's the remaining dates for this tour: 12 May - Richmond, VA @ Church of Abe 13 May - Virginia Beach, VA @ TBA 14 May - Washington DC @ Hot Tub House 15 May - Pittsburgh, PA @ City Grows 16 May - Philadelphia, PA @ LAVA 18 May - Allentown, PA @ Alternative Gallery 19 May - Brooklyn, NY @ Don Pedro's 20 May - Rochester, NY @ Bug Jar 21 May - Buffalo NY @ Sugar City 22 May - St. Catharines, ON @ the Temple 23 May - Kitchener-Waterloo, ON @ North & Coldwater House https://vilecreature.bandcamp.com/releases

Got my ticket for Ufomammut tomorrow and need to buy one for Inter Arma and Yautja Thursday. Why the gently caress did I not listen to Yautja until this moment? They are the tits. Also High On Fire and Pallbearer are touring this summer. Of course they come to Chicago on a Tuesday, which is one of two nights that are impossible to get out of with work (at least at this time). That will make the third time I've missed Pallbearer in a 9-month period.

Dyna Soar posted:which album was the one about jesus's time traveling evil twin? iirc that one had a lot of icke in it. That was De Vermis Mysteriis. The idea behind Snakes for the Divine was also far out. Matt Pike posted:"The title 'Snakes for the Divine' is based on the premise that Adam and Eve weren't the first people on Earth, and Adam actually having a wife that was a Reptilian named Lilith. They were the first two people to actually take the reptilian DNA, and make shape shifting human beings that go between the fourth-dimensional, the Anunnaki, and human beings. Eventually, from ancient Mesopotamia, this spawned a thing called the Illuminati - the enlightened ones - coming up through the centuries, and choosing the kings, controlling your media, controlling your banking, blah blah blah. It's just theory at most points. I thought it'd make a great metal song, so I just went ahead and started writing about that. That's how the record came about, as far as the theme.
