I have friends who after decades of either playing or listening to super loud music are suffering from tinnitus, some so bad that they've had to stop playing music and going to gigs to keep the tiny amount of hearing they have left. Don't be a loving idiot, buy some good plugs and you'll protect your hearing and the music will actually sound better.

Eat The Rich posted:I started playing guitar four months ago and I just started getting into doom metal and co. I really love to get baked and lay against my amp and strum real slow. When I'm not doing that, I'm listening to Dopesmoker on repeat. are you one of those guys who don't like screamed or growled vox

thats good! here's my fav albums that fit in this thread: the obsessed - lunar womb (working mans doom metal, strong biker rock influence. my favourite wino album) grief - ...and man will become the hunted (classic sludge, slow & low but with some nice mean guitar melodies) eyehategod - take as needed for pain (bluesy sludge w/ a strong hardcore influence) toadliquor - feel my hate (sabbath slowed to a crawl, musical equivalent of a heroin od) cavity - supercollider (sabbathian grooves filtered through amrep feedback, played with hardcore precision) 16 - bridges to burn (as above but more slayer than black flag) warhorse - as heaven turns to ash (huge loving riffs. check this if you like windhand, these guys blow them out of the water) buzzoven - sore (hardcore influenced sludge metal, esp. great use of vocal samples) neurosis - through silver in blood (the start of post metal i guess. mixing floydian atmospherics with post punks gloominess, hardcore intensity sabbathian sludgey riffs. a masterpiece) godflesh - slavestate ep (biomechanical sludge) type o negative - world coming down (imo one of the most underrated doom metal albums. people love em, but most don't consider this to be doom metal)

il_cornuto posted:I'm slightly biased because Oceanic was the album that got me past my (then) dislike of harsh vocals, but I do genuinely love their work. They're not the most fun band though, so I can understand why other people might not like them so much. they're just a boring neurosis worship, basically. then again i dislike all of that post metal stuff that's basically just boring neurosis worship.

Henchman of Santa posted:They're not that similar to Neurosis honestly. A lot more post-rocky and less into having huge heavy moments. come on dude, they are 100% similar to some neurosis albums, like times of grace and a sun that never sets. neurosis wrote the book that those guys obsessively studied before starting isis.

corrupted has a new 12'' out: http://coldspring.co.uk/2018/01/corrupted-felicific-algorithim/ This record isn’t your standard doom fare. The title-less tracks are to be played at either standard vinyl speed. Therefore (and at the band’s request), no samples or download code. lol, i'm naturally buying it but it could be poo poo.

musically they've got nothing to do with this thread but they are awesome. my favourites are probably tyranny & mutation and agents of fortune from the 70s rock sound, but i'm really totally in love with fire of unknown origin. it's cheesy AOR, like toto if they were rad and it's just really great you guys i mean check this out, just a perfect song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9yQnLsvucs but despite them not being heavy sonically, if you listen to the lyrics and the overall mood of fire of unknown origin, it's easy to hear their influence in later american bands. brilliant stuff Dyna Soar fucked around with this message at 16:57 on Mar 7, 2018 |

writing the op for the industrial / noise thread scares me, i'd want it to be really good and i'd have to start from stockhausen and get to the loving impossible variation of microgenres that exist now. here's the 70s list, it's only a dozen or so songs right now. i can expand it if there's interest. https://open.spotify.com/user/anjovisbonus/playlist/795FORLdpqPhCTwHuzWlio Dyna Soar fucked around with this message at 16:48 on Mar 8, 2018 |
