Since we're more than halfway through the year, how about a half years best of lists? IMO it can have other stuff than what would strictly fall unde the stoner/doom/sludge umbrella. It's nice to see some off beat stuff from ppl who more or less share the same taste as me. I'll compile mine once I get home.

EkoEkoAzarak posted:To be fair if you want to "support the artist" you gotta buy Vinyl directly from them. Especially whilst the band is touring. Distros and Labels get all the money from web-store/record store sales Well yeah, the bands usually get an x amount of the records to sell and make the money that way. Then again it's usuall y20-40% so the majority will buy it from the label or distros who've bought it from the label so by buying vinyl you're keeping the labels afloat, thus enabling the bands to release and tour in the future. It all comes together with indies and small vinyl pressings.

We're gonna release a fairly limited edition cassette of our demo + 4 new songs with Woodrue. Email me at woodrueband at gmail.com if you're interested in acquiring a copy, normal price will be 4€ but I'll make a special deal for goons. This is kind of like a pre-order so please shoot me an email if you're interested so I'll know how many extra cassettes I'll order.

I mean, it's a pretty apt name for dirty-sounding music that sounds like it's oozing from the speakers, but I've never seen an explanation about it at all. Music magazines called Crowbar doomcore at first. I am glad it didn't catch on.

eh, sludgecore and doomcore were thrown around back when crowbar and eyehategod were new. there's no real distinction or meaning to either, it's just names music magazines came up with.

^ That poo poo is called Neurosis (Or Neurisis for ppl who like Isis) worship and you should definitely check out Neurosis from Enemy of the Sun onwards. No ones ever done it better and never will. For more bands, I suggest you check out; Amenra (pretty much the best of the bunch) Cult of Luna (good stuff up until Salvation altho the later albums are highly regarded as well) The Abominable Iron Sloth (their self titled is good, haven't heard the new one) for the more southern stuff, check out Rwake. They pretty much made the whole psychedelic southern metal thing. Also Samothrace, Deadbird, Eagle Twin, Lesbian, Middian & Yob and Indian are stuff you might dig.

Leaf Hound, Sir Lord Baltimore, Blue Oyster Cult, Nazareth, Pussy, Lucifers Friend, May Blitz etc. Of course these modern bands have been influenced by other stuff as well but there's a shitload of heavy psych from the 70s that's worth checking out. There's a blog called The Day After The Sabbath that posts comps of this stuff, I've found a lot of obscure poo poo from there.

Handen posted:I like it, lots of potential, but the drums sound a bit weird and ambiguous in the mix. Snare has no crack/snap to it and the kick would benefit immensely if it ducked some portion of the wall of guitar/bass fuzz sound you have going on. Truckfighters has this technique perfected to a fine science; the snare and kick each duck the guitar and bass at the same time with a med/slow attack and slow release, giving the drums more space to breath in the mix and giving the listener something to attach themselves to outside of a relentless steamroller wall of fuzzed out guitar and bass. Ask your current/next producer/recorder/engineer guy about it. Thanks for the input. Both our demos have been DIY efforts through and through. We recorded this playing live at our practice space with 8 mics, 1 for each guitar, 1 for bass, 2 overheads and 3 for drums (kick, toms and snare iirc) with minimal production (mostly just that all instruments are audible, we didn't really pay too much or maybe enough attention to separate instruments). This is more of a second demo than a real release, or thats how we treat it anyway. Next time we're going to a studio it will be more of a pro thing and it'll definitely have better production values. Handen posted:That being said, is Church of Misery a huge influence on you guys? Part of 'Misery' reminds me of 'Spahn Ranch', not to mention the sound clips you guys use. Overall, keep it up. Not really, no. I've made most of the riffs but songwriting as a whole is a group effort for us and half of the band hadn't heard CoM before we got asked to play with them. That said I personally love CoM and Tatsu is def an influence on my playing style. Handen posted:Also, what's your role in the band? I play bass, make riffs & do the artwork and write some lyrics. Winston Chill posted:I'm really liking your stuff, even with the lousy mixing. Too bad you're only releasing a cassette. I'm not sure if I liked the songs on your demo better though. Heh, thanks. We're re-recording everything and we've got a few new songs lines up for our possible LP that's possibly coming next year. Possibly .

Polegrinder posted:I don't get the Mastodon hate. I like everything they've put out so far including the latest release. I like when a band progresses each album, it seems like a natural thing for a band like them. Kylesa is sorta doing the same thing and it seems like Baroness' next album might be a bit different than their last. Maybe it's because both Kylesa and Mastodon sound more like alternative rock bands than metal and they were better at making metal than alternative rock. I still dig both of em, just went to see Kylesa a couple of weeks ago. I just totally get all the hate.

my fav neofolk band, tenhi from finland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8uDlHN26xs that's from their latest album, saivo. it's real good, but my fav is maaäet from 2006: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80P1tf6fFWc 16 horsepower is not neo-folk, as neofolk has a pretty well established sound and aesthetic. neofolk is, like most genres, completely arbitrary. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neofolk Dyna Soar fucked around with this message at 16:47 on Feb 11, 2014 |

my band's 12'' split with our buddies semtex is out, you can order it from http://kaos-kontrol.org/shop/product_info.php?products_id=569 also gotta recommend some finnish dirt for ya'll: hebosagil: sludgey noise rock, like a amprep style with that nola groove. https://hebosagil.bandcamp.com/track/t-m-mies fleshpress: grand old man of the finnish scene. in the past few albums, these guys have mutated almost beyond recognition from the slow dirge they used to do. melodic, progressive still heavy as gently caress. my favourite band. check out if you dig earth, king crimson, rwake, grief... https://fleshpress.bandcamp.com/track/coming-of-gaze throat: sludgey noise rock, i love this band. check em if you dig that hosed up grooove: https://ihatethroat.bandcamp.com/album/manhole chestburster: these guys are pretty much straight up rock and roll, but they have that 90s sludgey, noisey sound. dinosaur jr. meets buzzoven, basically. no stoner, no doom, just straight up hosed up dirty rock. https://thetruechestburster.bandcamp.com/track/opiate-fivefold-2 Dyna Soar fucked around with this message at 12:44 on Sep 12, 2014 |
