Just discovered Sgt. Sunshine tonight and I don't remember them ever being mentioned in this thread. Psychedelic/Stoner rock in the vein of Colour Haze, Sungrazer, etc. The first self titled album is unfortunately out of print, but it is drat good.

Right now I'm listening to Het Droste Effect, a psych rock band from the Netherlands and it's pretty loving awesome. You can get their EP on bandcamp for free, so do it.

Also stumbled across an EP by the band Tuber, reminds me of 35007, My Sleeping Karma, stuff in that vein. Again you can get it free on bandcamp:

Not nearly enough love for Colour Haze in this thread. Lets hope they work out the technical problems with the new album shortly, because it sounds like it's going to be incredible.

Wow, thanks a ton for the Colour Haze reccomendation, can't believe I've never heard of them. Found this incredibly good video of some dudes longboarding downhill for a solid 4 minutes to one of their songs that just completely melted my brain, thought I'd share: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGUaxkmfv5c&feature=related

That's such a great song that it convinced my to buy four of their albums after I heard it. Totally worth it.

Acid King - simply awesome

I don't really understand the appeal of these folks. Lori's vocals are generally so horribly out of tune that I find their music to be completely unlistenable.

Well ..that's..just like your opinion man.

Whatever floats your boat, don't understand why you would post your disdain so simply for a band. What do you like? maybe ask for some recommendations closer to those..

Just something that's been bugging me for a while. I own The Early Years and Busse Woods and have listened to them a few times and just can't get past the vocals (something which isn't usually a problem for me). It's not so much that the melodies are bad or anything, she's just always about a quarter step sharp or flat and it's like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Also, what's wrong with creed? It's an actual word, not just a crappy band.

I can't remember if I found this here or not, so hopefully this isn't a repost. A band called Trippy Wicked from the UK has been posting some acoustic covers of some stoner doom songs, and they're loving awesome.

Dragonaut - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5HEXKtUK18

They also have an album and EP out of their own stuff, which are also awesome, so check it out.

So I'm actually thinking about starting a radio show at a friend's prompting, and the theme would be "doom country". Doom and country separately, or together... Earth, obviously, but also dark country/folk/Americana. Checking out Man's Gin cuz of this thread. Other recommendations?

Colour Haze 'She Said' news

The CD version will be available to purchase from elektrohasch.de next wednesday, the 12th of September.

Also after a much longer wait then usual I got the testpressing for the vinyl last wednesday - but it doesn`t sound right. We are working hard to solve the problem but our vinyl manufacturer is extremely busy and therefore slow at the moment we can`t tell if we`ll have the DLP ready for our tour starting on the 27th.

No word on when it will be available through their distributors however. I'm psyched, I've been waiting for this album to be released for over a year.

Edit: Also, tour dates:

I don't think I've seen Stoned Jesus posted yet. They're a really awesome stoner/psychedelic/doom band from the Ukraine. They have both of their albums up on Bandcamp. Seven Thunders Roar is definitely the album to check out, with the highlight being I'm The Mountain. They have kind of a rustic woodsy quality to their music, if that makes any sense. The cover art for the album is actually a pretty good indication of how they sound:

Stefan is a master of dynamics, just like the rest of CH. I think I've read that he plugs straight into his massive wall of amps, getting all his tones by adjusting the volume on his guitar or by using a volume pedal. The Guild Starfire that he uses is a big part of his sound as well.

Haggatha IV is out on Bandcamp, and it's a nasty, grimy beast. I can't believe they've kept a 17 minute track up their sleeves for this long.

Stefan isn't just a great guitarist, I think he is just a great musician in general. He (and the rest of Colour Haze) have a great sense of dynamics, composition, and ensemble playing that to be frank a lot of metal and rock bands simply don't grasp.

There's an interview with him up about the recording of the new album on The Obelisk that is a good read:
http://theobelisk.net/obelisk/2012/10/05/colour-haze-she-said-interview-with-stefan-koglek/

Also, if anyone here hasn't tracked down Unida's unreleased album The Great Divide, you should get on that. It's honestly some of John Garcia's best work.

Can anyone recommend some really dirty stuff along the lines of Boris' Pink and Greenmachine's Archive of Rotten Blues? I've really been enjoying the messiness of the riffs on these albums.

Check out Sonic Flower if you don't already know them, basically Church of Misery without a vocalist. They only put out one short album though unfortunately.

So I recently stumbled across an album called Tumuli Shroomaroom, by the band Acrimony. It seems like it's a bit of an unknown (or at least under appreciated) release, but I think it should be up there as one of the best stoner releases of the 90s.

My pre-order was delayed by Sandy, so I have no idea when it will get here. I'm also waiting to hear it until I have it in my hands. I really liked the only track I've listened to so far, At The Well, and I enjoy their more recent work just as much as their earlier heavier stuff. I also really like Scott Kelly and Steve Von Till's mellow acoustic projects, so I'm expecting to at the very least enjoy this album, even if it isn't super heavy. They've never put out a bad album imo, and I don't expect them to start now.

I'm a little late to the game, but I also picked up Ancestor's In Dreams and Time yesterday, and man that album is a beast. I'm glad they got rid of the noodley organ stuff from the last album and put in a bigger variety of synth sounds and effects. The songwriting is also much more focused, and the production is a big step up.

This song (and everything by Neurosis save for the one song Locust Star) pretty much encapsulates my dislike for anything neurot: it's all so pretentious beyond belief. Easy and fake depth everywhere.

I don't really agree with that on the music, but I will give you that Scott Kelly's blog is horrifically pretentious (and silly):

Scott Kelly posted:

I try not to let it get to me.

But it is always there.
In the shadows.
Within each footstep.
From the bottom of each breath.
I gave up trying to control it a long time ago.
I know that the only way to it, is through it.
The only thing I fear in life is time, because time brings me closer and keeps me father away from it.
The only thing I know for sure is that I know nothing at all.

Good lord.

Also the best ISIS album is Absence.
