I'm spinning the new Elder album right now and I'm only on the second song and it's already amazing. Also, any New England-are folks going to the Inter Arma show in Boston on April 11th? It's at an oddly early time of the day. Still going to be awesome. Aside from Yautja, Forn and The Proselyte will be playing with them.

Is it okay to plug a friend's band, even if they're kinda in limbo right now? My buddy Steve's project (well, one of a couple) is a stoner/sludge/doomish thing that's just a bass guitar and drums. I don't know when they'll be doing more stuff, but their self-titled and the Owl EP are both really cool. http://oldegrowth.bandcamp.com/album/olde-growth

Uncle Glum and His Melancholic Nephew (you guys can decide which is which, but the one playing Uncle Glum needs to dye his hair white and wear grandpa sweaters). The Invisible Man Trio. Your gimmick is that you pretend the Invisible Man is your lead singer, though it's really just pre-recorded vocals being played over your music while there's a microphone stand on stage with no one behind it. This really only works live. Chronosynclastic Infundibongum. Kharkov.

big scary monsters posted:Yeah I find that you can certainly pick out the individual instruments and melodies a lot more clearly with them in. I will sometimes take them out for a couple of minutes to experience that wall of sound effect though. I'm definitely finding this to be true. I used to be dumb about earplugs and wouldn't wear them to shows, but now, getting older, I'm certainly taking the fact that I like to be able to hear more seriously, and the upside is that plugs do seem to cut out extraneous junk and let the music come through clearer. Yob was awesome on Saturday. Marrow was like a religious experience for me. Next up is the Inter Arma show in Boston on the 11th. Yautja, Forn, and The Proselyte. Gonna be a great one.

Saw Vile Creature Saturday night in Boston. I have to say, it was some pretty heavy poo poo, and not just musically. The guitarist/vocalist has been through some awful poo poo in his life, and it comes through in the music. He's very up front with it all, and it's nice to see something genuinely angry and sad and hateful, not just something made up. It's some slow, mournful doom, and I was pretty moved by it watching them live. If you get a chance to see them, do it. Talk them up afterwards. It's worth it, I think. Here's the remaining dates for this tour: 12 May - Richmond, VA @ Church of Abe 13 May - Virginia Beach, VA @ TBA 14 May - Washington DC @ Hot Tub House 15 May - Pittsburgh, PA @ City Grows 16 May - Philadelphia, PA @ LAVA 18 May - Allentown, PA @ Alternative Gallery 19 May - Brooklyn, NY @ Don Pedro's 20 May - Rochester, NY @ Bug Jar 21 May - Buffalo NY @ Sugar City 22 May - St. Catharines, ON @ the Temple 23 May - Kitchener-Waterloo, ON @ North & Coldwater House https://vilecreature.bandcamp.com/releases

Went to see Wayfarer/Falls of Rauros in Cambridge last night, Serial Hawk was there and they loving crushed my bones to dust until lovely electrical problems made them cut their set short. But they're awesome. Their setup is great, they shove all their cabs up like a few feet behind them, and you can feel the low end just pulverizing you while the drummer punishes them skins. My friend Steve is heading out on the road for a short tour with not one but two bands! Sea and Olde Growth will be doing eight dates in a kinda funky loop from Philly to Jersey. If you got the time, check 'em out. FRI 7/3: Philadelphia, PA @The Pharmacy SUN 7/5: Pittsburgh, PA @The Shop MON 7/6: Lexington, KY @Al's Bar TUE 7/7: Chicago, IL @Mt. Happy WED 7/8: Milwaukee, WI @Cocoon Room FRI 7/10: Cleveland, OH @Euclid Tavern SAT 7/11: Buffalo, NY @Northrup House SUN 7/12: New Brunswick, NJ @TBA Liz, one of the guitarists for Sea, also does the art for the band (among others) and she made a cool poster for the show. She also did this killer thing for Rozamov. Speaking of Rozamov, did anyone post the split they did with Deathkings when it came out? Yeah, Thou was amazing. Place went apeshit. I was right upfront for most of it, got kinda knocked out of place toward the later part of the set. Having never seen them before, I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't quite that. I also wasn't expecting the vocalist for False to be a barefoot sorta-hipster chick. She's got some nasty pipes. Forn was great, too. Second time I've seen them, and the vocals were actually audible this time around, which was nice.
