drat I forgot about this thread. Earthless and Wovenhand are playing across the street from each other at the same time this Friday and I've never had a chance to see either of them. I'm going to see Earthless, but gently caress, come on guys.

It's funny how many special interest threads and subforums hearing issues come up in. Goons are aging. I'm paying for my carelessness through tinnitus and general hearing loss now. If I'd known how fuckin obnoxious tinnitus is, I'd have worn plugs for a lot more everyday poo poo when I was younger. My social anxiety was getting progressively worse until I realized a lot of it was from not being able to hear people speaking in crowded places, bars, parties, etc. I wear my ER20s to all social gatherings now, even just dinner with my wife in a louder restaurant and I can have almost normal conversation now. And gently caress, the tinnitus. I can't sleep in a quiet room for poo poo from the EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Take care of your ears.

yoober posted:as someone who's had tinnitus since early youth, can you explain what its like? I mean I hear the ringing, its just that I'm so used to it at this point I don't really know what normal hearing is supposed to be. Any time I'm somewhere quiet, it sounds like someone has amplified the high-pitched whine that comes from old CRT tvs, from a few inches away from my head. A little bit of white noise to interrupt it really helps. When I notice it and start thinking about it, the volume cranks up. It's also worse when I leave a loud environment and take my plugs out, like at the end of a motorcycle ride or get home from a bar. For that matter, being drunk makes it worse too. Weed makes it more tolerable. I've also had a couple concussions, but they were quite a while before it really got bad. Edit: my earlier post makes it look like I'm blaming the tinnitus for the problems hearing conversation in loud places. It's more the general hearing loss makes it really hard to pick out a single voice when there's a lot of background babble. I know this isn't extremely Doom or Sludge, but I haven't seen Yawning Man's new album mentioned in here yet. edit: gently caress Stoned Meadow of Doom I didn't even realize they were still together and have been quietly putting out albums the whole time. There was discussion a few pages back about how people got into listening to this kind of stuff, and a bunch of people mentioned starting with QOTSA, Kyuss, and other desert rock. I saw a pretty good documentary called Lo Sound Desert back in November about the desert music scene and have been listening to Yawning Man, Brant Bjork, Fu Manchu, Nebula, and Fatso Jetson since then. It's on Amazon Prime right now. Here's some Fatso Jetson that I enjoyed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTGvcyFT8qo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzS0AzJ4R9Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivmOMxzQeew There was a ton of musician crossover between the original Palm Desert bands, so Mario Lalli showed up all over the place, like on this song that eventually became a classic QOTSA song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQojjK-dfN4 HenryJLittlefinger fucked around with this message at 19:50 on Feb 17, 2020 |

Ok, these things work pretty well. They’re not as good as foamies but drat close and a surprisingly flat sound profile. The moldable bit that seals your outer ear hardens fairly rigid, so I can see them getting tiring if you pack them in too tight during the fitting process. I wore them for about 4 hours straight and have a little ear fatigue but not bad. No tinnitus beyond my background levels plus 4 beers. loving Wovenhand. They are extremely weird. David does not interact with the crowd at all except to occasionally say something in Hebrew or Lakota or Aramaic. My wife said he seems like the son of a Pentecostal minister who spent a lot of time in the desert doing peyote. I think his father was a Seventh Day Adventist minister, actually. Anyhow they are heavy as gently caress now. The drummer is a drat metronome. He makes pockets like JP Gaster, maybe even deeper.
