Definitely check out Capricorns, they were an instrumental sludge band from the UK and they were really solid overall. 1 EP and 2 full lengths, all three of those releases are worth listening to.

Speaking of Elder, I feel like I need to give Lore and Reflections of a Dying World another shot. I mean I remember them being decent albums but neither of them really hooked me the same way Dead Roots Stirring did (I pretty much listened to that album for like 3 months straight on commutes to and from work).

Yeah.. I'm not digging it. I mean I appreciate that Elder is trying to evolve their music with each new release, but I'm not really interested in the direction they've been heading.

most of the way through it at work. not bad; not as heavy as i want it to be, but not the krautrock album some people were worried about, either

When they released the first track from the album (Embers) I posted about it in here saying I wasn't really a fan of it, but it has admittedly been growing on me over the last little while, so I do want to give the whole album a shot now that it's out.

Speaking of albums released today, Elephant Tree just dropped their new one, Habits:

As for actual content, I'm not sure if they qualify as stoner (although they do seem heavily influenced by Black Sabbath) but I'm really digging Lightning Born, here's a track from their album that's been stuck in my head over the last few days:

Couple things for the thread.

First, y’all ever hear of Filth Wizard? I seem to recall there’s one Aussie stoner goon in here, so I imagine they’re familiar. Three piece, instrumental, somewhere between blisteringly heavy and smooth groovy. Indefinable blend of prog chops, sludgy grooves, and clean psych. Don’t know how to describe them because they’re both quite ordinary and extremely impressive. Two records out. The first is raw and heavy, the second is a bit more restrained and even across the board but it’s all excellent. A+++ band name, also.

Thanks for posting this, really digging their stuff.

I think its kind of obvious now that the magic sauce that made Kyuss and early qotsa good was just Homme. Kyuss maybe was a result of a few great minds together (scott reeder is a killer bass player) but its pretty obvious where the talent was coming from in hindsight and I guess Homme had every right to be a dick about the writing credit/royalty stuff that led to kyuss breaking up.

there isnt a single spin-off featuring a member of kyuss/qotsa that I've enjoyed besides maybe Unida.

What do you mean "maybe"???

Laserface posted:

Unidas album coping with the urban coyote is better than anything kyuss did.

That's my spicy opinion for the week.

I'm not a weird stalker, I promise, I just remember this post of yours because that post is what made check out that Unida album and I think it's an absolute banger.

Listening to this once again at work this morning, basically a perfect album.

I have a hard time picking a number one favourite album (well, it's probably the same for everyone else unless you exclusively listen to one genre or subgenre of music) but I think Dead Roots Stirring would actually take my number one spot because I can listen to that album at any time, over and over again, and never get tired of it. Whereas with other albums that I really enjoy, I find that I have to be in a certain mood to listen to them. Like I'd probably put Converge's Jane Doe in my top 3 albums ever, but I'm not always up for listening to something that aggressive.

Good eye, those are microtonal frets. The double-neck was made by Dunable, here's a post they made about it a few years ago:

We made this double neck JM bass/guitar a few years ago for @jeffmatz.77 of @highonfireband and today we refretted it with small banjo wire and in a microtonal layout which is SICK and now it’s heading back to Jeff to get some eastern shreds going.

drat, I just found out that Acid King plays here in Copenhagen on May 8th.

I got to know this band through this thread, and it's still one of my favorites in this genre, so I'm pretty stoked.

I listen to every band/track being posted here, and a lot of them are not really me (growling/screaming just doesn't do it for me), but I was wondering if there were any other bands like Acid King that are worth looking into, like newer bands and/or less known outside their local area, but with the same heavy, slow riffs, and if vocals are present, the same style where it's a clear singing voice?

I don't know if this fits what you're looking for but I'd definitely recommend checking out True Widow anyway:
