Old Man Gloom

There has been no mention of Old Man Gloom. I don't know why I bring them up since they're not doing anything these days, but I love this loving band.

It's really a side project for the principle members, which hail from more well-known bands:

Caleb Scofield (Cave In/Zozobra)
Aaron Turner (Isis)
Nate Newton (Converge)
Santos Montano (Zozobra)

But honestly... OMG is so much weirder and cooler than all of those bands. If you're familiar with Hydra Head's backcatalog you've probably heard of these guys, and you probably know what they sound like. Think albums full of 1-2 minute loud songs and 3-5 minute improvisational/avant garde songs, and one album that's just a 27 minute song (which is also their best album).

I do love Acid King. Their sludge has just the right consistency for my taste.

Did anyone get to any of the Old Man Gloom shows and get a copy of the new record? Anyone? If you did, what's the verdict?

I've only heard this 14 second teaser on youtube, which basically says nothing we don't already know about Old Man Gloom, but judging from the sheer quality of their past four albums, I'm not worried.

Do Torche count as stoner rock? I'm reasonably sure I got them from this thread and I've barely stopped listening their new album Harmonicraft since it came out. It's probably one of the most uplifting things I've heard recently if that's what you're into.
Torche counts. I saw them live in Chapel Hill last week. Glad I did, because one of the opening bands, "Holly Hunt" was a good new find for me. 2-piece guy/girl sludge metal band. All instrumental. Very low-fi. 20-minute wandering tracks. Almost the opposite of Torche on the spectrum of accessibility in the sludge genre.
