flirty dental hygienist posted:Gonna try and see them in September in Tampa. Missed them the last time they came through. I'm excited to see Steve McDonald from Redd Kross with them on bass. I'm seeing Redd Kross with Dale Crover on drums tonight E: obviously it wasn't stoner/doom, but it was incredible, Dale/Steven should be amazing live for Melvins. I'm going go see them in Denver. trem_two fucked around with this message at 08:31 on Apr 30, 2017 |

I'm digging this quite a bit, like a retro stoner album that uses early 80s SoCal punk and metal as it's influences instead of 70s hard rock: https://braveinthegrave.bandcamp.com/album/street-reaper

Even if you aren't as into the Electric Wizard albums of the last decade or so, the songs they play from those records in their set are all pretty awesome. Their set list never changes because of the coordination with the visuals, so just make a playlist of that set list to get familiar with those songs and

Yeah, and if you dig the synths on Black Mountain records, their synth player has put out an album and a soundtrack under the name Sinoia Caves which are good 70s worship spacey synth records.

You can also get a free YouTube music account and upload all your Bandcamp purchases there, which is what I do. Then you can listen to them online or sync to your device for offline listening.

hatelull posted:I've been jamming the new LP from The Pilgrim and it's pretty good. Probably more stoner doom adjacent, since it's acoustic hippy jams probably owing more to indie folk or the Dead than Sabbath. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of the Jesus and Mary Chain record Stoned and Dethroned. Still, I can dig it. This is hitting the spot for me this morning

Also, in regards to gig chat, one of the best breaks in my life was suddenly getting sent to San Francisco for work meetings on a couple day's notice, and the day I got there Electric Wizard were playing, and it absolutely slayed. I've had absolute abysmal luck trying to see Uncle Acid, I've had tickets in hand for them 3 times and have still yet to see them (once I got incredibly sick the day of a gig, once I got sent out of town for work, this year their US tour was cancelled due to covid ) I've been lucky to see a handful of good-to-great SDS bands at festivals though (Clutch, Baroness, Mastodon, Sleep, OM, Sunn O))), Sunn O))) + Boris together, High on Fire)

There is a great collection of demos that is easy to find on download sites called The Complete 1982 Demos, that has songs that ended up on My War and Slip It In. It was a killer lineup that never appeared all together on a real release (Rollins, Ginn, Dez Cadena, Chuck Dukowski, Chuck Biscuits). That demo collection was my intro to the band, it kicks rear end, I like it more than any of their actual albums.

This is some dinosaur themed stoner/doom, and hell, I think it kicks rear end. Some definite Electric Wizard worship going on, but that's not a crime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8RdImjmmoo

While I acknowledge that this likely strays too far from SDS to be included in this thread, I think some folks here might dig it. Like a 90s slowcore record layered with sheets of fuzz, songs that build up tension before shaking loose with sloooow riffs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLjl7BGfZf8
