That Monster Magnet artwork piqued my interest too. If you haven't heard Tab from those guys, it might be worth your time. It is 32 minutes of stoner psychedelia and probably one of the best things they've done.

High on Fire is playing here Monday night at House of Blues. I love the albums, but haven't seen them live. Are they worth the spend? I've heard the live album the released recently, and it was OK but live albums are never really a good indicator of how the band performs.

Recommendations?

Do you remember what time they went on? They're playing HoB here so it's gonna be fairly structured.

Honestly, I like that more than walking off stage and having everyone stand around and yell poo poo until they come back on for the obligatory last number.

I'm streaming the new Dead Meadow record now and it's pretty great if you like those guys.

They're currently on tour, and it will probably be their last for awhile so catch them if you can.

Not necessarily Stoner/Doom/Sludge, but Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space is up there for me.

On topic for this thread, I'm a big fan of ...

The last Dead Meadow record
Comets on Fire (either Avatar or Blue Cathedral)
Monster Magnet's Tab EP (but I'll take Superjudge in a heartbeat)
Black Mountain's In the Future
Master of Reality

Not sure if you're wanting to differentiate between "seriously trippy records" and "stuff that sounds superb while supremely baked" because most everything is acceptable for the latter yeah?

The drummer for Venomous Maximus lives 4 houses down from me and they're not playing ONE show in our town. So very not cool.

I get it though. When they toured for the last album, they played House of Blues here on a Monday night. The venue was half full and the crowd was full baked. I loved it, but man if there were more than 100 people at that show I'd be surprised.

The 80's hasher in me wants to strongly disagree with this statement. Those first two Randy records are pretty great. "Mr. Crowley", " Suicide Solution", and that one two punch of "Over the Mountain" and "Flying High Again" are glorious in all their cocaine fueled decadence.

Not terribly stonery doom, but I have fun memories with those albums.

Yeah, I'm lost on this one. If you're just a dyed-in-the-blue collar wool stoner metal fan, then I could see how the post-Sabbath stuff Ozzy did was less than appealing and if you hate the Beatles then one could equate the too. Does he really hate on the Ozzy era Sabbath?

Definitely NOT in the same vein as Sleep or Bongripper, these guys remind me more of Clutch and the more classical Sabbath influenced bands like Graveyard. I just got turned on to them today, but I think it's dope.

Ordering some of these, since it will only be 7 years (and not 20) until this is me. Plus, there's a metric fuckton of loudness descending on my city soon (Opeth w/ The Sword, Gojira w/ Tesseract, Meshuggah w/ High On Fire) and after seeing A Place to Bury Strangers a few weeks back in a small room I think I need to be more cautious.

Graveyard is "closing."

Graveyard via Facebook posted:

Dark clouds above the graveyard today.

Due to the all so classic reason "differences within the band" the Graveyard is as of today officially closed. This is the unfortunate final decision we've had to make after going through a period of struggling n juggling with personal issues. Things have gone out of hand and now our energy is very low. As a direct result of this we're sorry to say that all scheduled touring is cancelled.

Graveyard have always been more about the music than the talking and that approach is the way we intend to deal with this situation also. What we can say is that we don't know if and when the Graveyard will re-open and return in full force.

Stay tuned, stay awesome & No endless night in sight.

Saw The Sword and Opeth last night. Opeth is probably not in context with this thread (but holy sweet baby black metal Jesus they were amazing), but The Sword totally delivers a 70's stoner vibe. Super good. They pulled heavily from the later material and didn't drop their bitchin' cover of "Cheap Sunglasses" on the Houston crowd, but it was still an excellent performance. Their merch table was disappointing though. :( No vinyl, and I already have a Sword t-shirt.

Just got my copy in the mail today. Based on the two tracks that they released prior, I'm not terribly surprised. The Sword were never that doomy to begin with, and Brownout/Brown Sabbath were more fuzzy latin/funk than anything else. I guess "Stoner Side of the Moon" didn't have the same ring?
