all the things you said
running through my head
My god. I expected the worst when I read "gravure model" and saw Aiko in the magazine. However when I wiki'd "gravure", I found out it meant "sexy happy model", more or less, instead of pornstar. Given the track record of this manga, I feel that my reaction was justified in that it's the kind of development that would crush my spirits for the rest of the day. I am curious to find out how she ended up modeling. I'm not expecting the journey to be uplifting.

Now we must wait 6 months to see how worse off punp^H^H^H^HTakashi is now that he met back up with Aiko.

I bet it's going to be really bad.

On a slightly different topic, I finally got around to reading the first volume of A Girl by the Sea, and well, I thought it was pretty good. I know its in monochrome to begin with, but it seemed like, to me anyway, everything was washed out and dull.

Just when I thought he'd turned a corner after the end of volume 8... this manga is torturous. It's always been a difficult read but it feels so much worse after that faint glimmer of hope.

Reading through the last couple chapters, I was thinking 'Please god, let him just loving kill himself in chapter 99 and end this'.

I'd like to believe that the wait for the next volume is going to be harder than actually reading it when it comes out, but I know that isn't true.

Every so often one of my cartoons leaves the nest and goes out into the world to make its way on its own. And then I hear about it. I hear about it from THE MORONS, the society of goons who HAVE THE MOST PROFOUND OBJECTIONS to what I am saying portraying, and, most of all, to what I am thinking.
I had to stop reading Punpun cause it wasn't helping my depression back when it started. I've forgotten to pick it up again.

Solanin is great, as a high school drop-out with a lovely job and playing in a band I really felt connected to it, the movie was boss too even with that stupid Ajikan song in it. Go to hell Ajikan.

Also don't lend your Asano manga to your other depressive friends.

I'm guessing you'll get your wish with Seki probably being hired to mess up Mr. ~Good Vibrations~ and all. :v:

Before we return to Punpun ruining his own life I'd just like to state that the Last Supper in 98 is pretty much the best thing ever. Literally everything about that page is loving hilarious. We've got Fatty McCatgirl as Bartholomaios, Dr. Pepper serving as the Eucharist, Biker Judas stealing Jesus' beer, and Shimizu as John/Magdalena (not sure which interpretation would be funnier).
Never change, Asano. :allears:

I seem to remember something similar happening several volumes back. I think he has blackouts occasionally, probably some condition. Then again it could be just completely surreal with no actual explanation. Even by the standards of this comic his scenes are always far and away more detached from reality than the rest.

And at the same time, Punpun's future apartment. Which apparently housed a member of the cult Aiko was part of as a child.

It's frustrating the near misses Punpun has with his old friends, between Seki and Shimizu meeting his future landlord, and his mom meeting Harumi. It seems like it would be really good for him to have those people still in his life, and they're obviously still in the area. Meeting up with the guys again would be way better than being reunited with Aiko, which considering past experience and current status couldn't possibly come to anything short of apocalyptic.

Not that I wouldn't love for everything to turn out fine and for Punpun and Aiko to be happy together forever. But, I mean, not really seeing things moving in that direction.

Went back and reread the thread and this was dead on. I remember thinking how great it would be if they got back together and figured poo poo out

Most painful parts of this manga was Punpun doing to Sachi what he did to Aiko years ago. Also Punpun is drawn more and more as a human and not as a bird. Especially the sex scene and him kissing Aiko.

Didn't Punpun not get along well with his mother? Why is he talking about how there's no such thing as a mother that doesn't care for her children? Is it wishful thinking? It's got to be wishful thinking. Agh, I'm going to go crazy in the time until the next volume gets translated.

I think he realizes that his mom cared for him, and I'm pretty sure she said as much a few times, he just had a lovely childhood and it's hard to put those feelings aside when you're talking to that person face to face.

I know I'm late to this but goddamn why oh why did I have to remember about this comic and check back on it after assuming Inio Asano dropped it after volume 8. I mean okay, that's what I conveniently chose to believe because I knew it could only be downhill for Punpun from then on, but jesus christ this bird
Then again in the last few chapters Punpun actually managed to parse together some sensible thoughts and be upfront about his feelings (in between, uh, doing less sensible things), maybe he'll make good decisions for himself and for everyone involved??
Things are gonna go just swell for this bird and those around him, I know it :unsmith:

(sachi, seki and the manager are going to die, shimizu's going to jail, aiko will go missing/homeless and punpun's gonna end up alone and sad in an empty apartment again, isn't he?)

So I bought the first volume of Punpun like a couple years ago and never got into it. Then a while back I picked this up totally on impulse because I liked the name and the cover art. It ended up being about the best manga I've read, so today I scanned my bookstore for anything else that he wrote, and grabbed Soranin. Then I saw Punpun next to it and I'll be goddamned if I had any idea it was the same guy. Guess I'll give it another try because he rules.
