I'm really curious, does anyone know if the original ch. 14 whether they included a translation for the English anywhere?

Really wish someone in the west would get the ball rolling on an official translation for Punpun. I would pay out the rear end for a big collected hardcover, not to mention all the merchandise. That little sadmanbird is so adorable :unsmith:

Are Vertical testing the waters for an eventual Punpun release? A Girl by the Sea really isn't the title to do it with (however short it is); it ended up being really polarizing.

They mention it took a few years to get the license because "it was bundled with other Asano licenses", and I think Punpun was about the only one left at the time? So they might've turned it down once already. If this sells, then who knows, but you may recall both Viz and Fantabooks have also done shorter Asano releases, and I don't think they bit on PunPun yet either so that may bode poorly. Or maybe not! I have no idea how they performed and it's kind of an inscrutable industry anyway.

I think that's one of the last things I need to read by Asano. Is that the one about horrifying sex? I've had it on my backlog for years while I've been loving off reading dumb Shoujo-Ai and Yuri manga.

Licensing punpun would be a terrible idea. It's way too long and no one would buy it.

Here's a follow up they posted

quote:

While we would love to work on something like PunPun, that title is managed by Shogakukan and their US subsidiary Viz Media. So while there is a very slim chance that could happen (especially if Asano decides to approach Vertical as an individual without an publishing agent), it isn’t very likely.

Write in to Viz, I guess?

I mean, I've pretty much ignored Punpun, but I think Asano appears to have taken up the position Urasawa occupied in US manga readers' minds during the previous decade, and Punpun seems to be his most popular work on the intern... oh.

This year's 19th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine is announcing on Monday that Inio Asano will resume his Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction manga in the magazine's 20th issue on April 13. The 20th issue will include an opening color page for the manga, and the new chapter will mark the start of the manga's third part.

The magazine had announced in December that Asano would put the manga on hiatus until this spring.

I'm still expecting some horrible twist in the series. Like the developing plot and overtones just seem to contrast so wildly to his "I just wanna draw cute girls!" idea with this series.

Maybe I've just watched too much District 9.

Double post time.

Bunch of new chapters for Dead came out finishing up volume 3. It's hosed. Are the aliens speaking some nonsense Japanese? And finally that sense of dread is making sense and fitting in with Kadode's end monologue.

I finally caught up with Dead Dead Demon's. I wasn't expecting a manga about a geeky 4channer girl during an alien invasion to be so emotionally tender. It feels like, you can tell that Inio Asano really loves Ontan and Kadode and the world he's making.

Yeesh reread this for the first time as a straight uninterrupted run and it's such a fluid punch to the gut that way, so many little references and bits of continuity I'd never noticed (especially involving "God").
"I already know you can no longer kill me" (jesus that whole chapter is loving haunting) and Punpun's final tearful wave are still such all time :qq: moments for me
You deserved so much better Aiko. Lots of new moments that were especially poignant for me though, like "The topic's not important though. It's just an assignment to help improve their writing skills."

Whoa nice.

I was wondering about the first drawing that he was putting the finishing touches on - and sure enough two new chapters (25 + 26) with apparently a new storyline with two new girls. I wonder if they'll interact with Kadode and Ouran.
