teethgrinder posted:No. PC came out over half a year later. They took their sweet time announcing it and wouldn't confirm it existing prior either. That said, the PC version wasn't playable for anyone without a brand new, overpowered computer for at least another year. Being able to run Crysis versus GTA IV isn't an apples to apples comparison. Crysis is much more reliant on your GPU while GTA IV is heavily CPU dependent. GTA IV still wasn't very well optimized, though.

teethgrinder posted:Well optimization is the crux of it, right? It's kind of lame for the developers to expect users to upgrade their CPU for one drat game when every single other PC game out there runs just fine for another 1.5 years afterwards. Crysis wasn't that well optimized either but the difference of a GPU reliant game is there are a bevy of options to customize to make it all work. If your CPU isn't up to snuff, there isn't as much that can be done to compensate. And don't get me wrong, I am not trying make bones over this. All the times outside of that, it does not matter to me what the controlled character says/does/looks like. It never crosses my mind that Niko's motivations don't line up with me cruising in a tank all aroudn town.

The size and scope of San Andreas is amazing when you consider it was on the PS2 and there were no load screens as you traveled between areas.

Is it that they charge your fare based on distance traveled that you think is confusing for first timers? And I think a DC knockoff with all the monuments and what not would be very distinctive and fun, albeit small. I can only imagine the new wave of poo poo that would come about from people being able to gun down politicians and what not, though.

However you can purchase the rest of your fare at the end of your ride so long as your card has minimum fare. There is always a bank of fare machines at the exits.

Tewratomeh posted:I'd say all the characters from IV will be completely ignored or there'll be another easter egg saying they're all dead. The GTA series was never big on continuity, so I don't know why people keep insisting that they'll see the same characters from game to game. Occasionally one would make a brief cameo, like Claude in San Andreas, but it was pretty rare except for maybe the DJs (who don't really count as "characters" in the game). At the same time, though, Catalina was a recurring character throughout most of GTA:SA as were Kent Paul and Ken Rosenburg. Much more than simple cameos. Obviously the PS2 era games were not strict or direct sequel/prequel games to one another but they were obviously all constrained within the same "universe".

Everything else is designed around making the game flow.

For example, the first LA Noire trailer came out before GTA 4 was released and that and RDR have come out since then, not to mention the handheld stuff. There's more than enough resources to work on 2 or 3 big games at once. A ton of studios but Rockstar North (which is working on Agent) is the one that handles all the GTA games. The only other games they have published are Manhunt and Red Dead Redemption and the bulk of RDR was done at Rockstar San Diego. They are certainly capable of announcing a new GTA even with Agent still in the works but it is unlikely they come out in the same year.

Tewratomeh posted:Alright, so apparently people are getting their PS3 controllers to work in San Andreas by making them emulate a 360 controller, but is there any way to get an actual 360 controller to work properly? I tried to set up my wired controller and neither analog trigger is registered by the game, and neither is the d-pad. I mean, I guess I could set it up for the most basic of controls and leave out the radio station switching or whatever, but I'd like to get all buttons working so it controls more like the PS2 version. You can try using the set up in this link: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=848465 But I am assuming the second analog stick works properly? If it does, I would just use Zedd suggestion since that would work way faster.

I know I must have had them on when I played it on PS2 because I didn't know about the option until I bought the classic pack last weekend and was like "what the gently caress is wrong with my FPS?" Turned them off and now the game feels way more foreign. I think I will be turning them back on because with out it the game just looks... ugly. (and that's not just the 2001 graphics)

But GTA4 was infuriating because I remember I kept failing that Elizabeta mission at the abandoned hospital and having to drive back there each and every time. Any mission that required you to go somewhere else to trigger the actual event was just awful if you had to restart. I can dig being loose on check points and they at least are throwing you a bone with the cellphone restart but poo poo... there is no reason for me to have to go pick up the Comet again after losing the race with Brucie or drive with Packie back to the pier and climb up to the roof after the first time.

I didn't forget about, it's just a poor workaround to the much more sensible option of restarting you at a meaningful part of the mission.
