ecotron posted:There's a cool Australian film called 'Wake in Fright' from 1971. I had no idea what to expect before watching it and found it completely terrifying. Looks really interesting - found a clip here. EDIT: Looks like it was recently restored and is on DVD and Blu-Ray. It's also known as Outback if anyone else is interested. escape artist posted:What do you guys think of Audition? I thought it was a fantastic movie, but an incredibly slow burn. It's great the first time around, but as someone else said, definitely not really worth watching after that. HUNDU THE BEAST GOD posted:I had a blast with American Horror Story. The second season is apparently going to have an entirely different cast from the first. I watched the first two episodes of this a while back and thought it was terrible, is it worth persisting with? I like the concept. Maybe someone should make a Martyrs thread as it doesn't belong here but it's an interesting film. It's just far, far too violent and the second half of the movie fits the 'goreporn' title too much (even if it has a pay-off and does somewhat fit the psychological horror tag). I'd do it myself but it's the most disturbing film I've ever seen and I don't really want to delve back into it for the purposes of writing a thread (although I watched the American cut with my sister a while back and it's nowhere near as bad but that kind of misses the point).

God, I love Dead Man's Shoes. Paddy Considine is amazing in it and it's fairly grounded. Just a terrific movie all around and it definitely fits with the thread. I don't really want to put anything in spoilers in case people mouse-over them (there's a fair bit that even if it wouldn't sound spoilerish would be ruined) but if you haven't seen it you definitely should.

Was in the mood for a movie like this so I went with Session 9. It had (very few) moments, but overall it was just generic and I felt pretty blase about it all. Fairly disappointed after wanting to see it for quite a while. I will say that it had an effective atmosphere though, and I liked the cast. It's tough to find genuinely scary movies that aren't heavy on the violence (which is mostly for the girlfriend's sake). I might show her Frailty, which is great, but I'm looking for something that's more of a 'mindfuck' I guess. How violent is Lake Mungo? 1 or 2 violent scenes is fine, but I'm more wondering about the level of it and how constant it is. As an Aussie I should probably watch it and it sounds up my alley. justlikedunkirk, great write-up on a movie I'd honestly never heard of. Maybe it'll get rediscovered like Wake in Fright did semi-recently (a similar kind of psychological, low-budget 70s horror film).

SolidSnakesBandana posted:I've never seen Kill List, but I've had this thought a lot. I also realize that not once have I ever somehow been convinced to like something by re-watching it. Maybe I'm alone here. I'm basically the same but I went from being pretty eh on Kill List to really enjoying it on a second watch. Once you know what's coming it's easier to get lost in the amazing sense of dread and unease that movie creates I reckon. Is The Signal (2014) any good? I've been meaning to watch it but it's proving a bit annoying to track down.
