- Jess is a single mother to Tommy, who is autistic. Encouraged by her friend, Greg, to take some time for herself, she joins him and his friends for a day of sailing. Soon, they get caught in a freak electrical storm which capsizes their boat, forcing them to seek refuge in a passing ocean liner. Once on board, they realize that the ship is empty. Jess, however, feels that she has been there before. As the group explores the ship further, strange things begin to happen. Jess finds her keys tossed on the floor, food appears to have been prepared for the group, and footsteps are heard in the halls. A masked figure stalks the group while Jess attempts to piece together the unfolding mystery as well as survive.-

I know, I know, must be a slasher movie. Not even close, I really don't want to give more of the plot because to tell more would be doing a disservice. I will say that some have overlooked it as a knockoff of Timecrimes. It's simply not true, this movie is so much better and complex than that movie. Timecrimes in my opinion was simple and became goofy halfway through. I've never had to spend as much time trying to piece together everything that I saw as I have with Triangle. You truly have to pay attention to everything that's going on and you're going to have to go back and check things you saw earlier to see if it makes sense once all is revealed. It's an absolute shame that very few people even heard of this movie and it was quietly released direct to DVD in the States.

Great movie. And I agree, if you go in expecting timecrimes you're setting yourself up to be disappointed. Where timecrimes has a timeline that can easily be represented by a wire with three loops in it this movie is some kind of bizarre infinite mobius-strip crossed with a strange loop construct that defies logical explanation.

There's some interesting discussion threads on this movie at IMDB. This post in particular is worth reading, especially if you didn't like the movie because it didn't make sense in the context of a time travel story. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1187064/board/thread/170267792?d=170284822&p=1#170284822

I still can't get through the majority of the theories that people have on IMDB about Triangle. I've never seen such verbose and varied theorizing and explanations of a Direct-To-DVD movie before, and with good reason too.

But this one...this one is unbelievable that someone would write this much about the inner workings of Triangle

Triangle: Mythology and Science (A 4 part dissection of Triangle) :aaaaa:

This sounds fascinating. I wouldn't mind watching it with my wife (who has studied psychology and would probably enjoy it), but how violent is it? She can't handle seeing gore or realistic violence against women.

If these are things she can't handle. She will make you turn this movie off or walk away in disgust 15 minutes into it. Other than that jarring scene, the rest of the violence is subdued and there's hardly any gore.

EDIT: But don't mistake my words to lead you to believe this is some Hostel remake, it is nothing like that and there's no tortureporn in this movie.

In an effort to keep the thread going on this new page, let me recommend another of the obscure horror titles that you most likely passed by based on the box art and description:

In the middle of World War I, nine British soldiers caught behind enemy lines seek refuge in a complex network of German trenches. What they soon discover is that they aren't alone...and it isn't a German soldier that's hunting them down.

This doesn't do the film justice, it really plays out more like an extended Twilight Zone episode (I could swear that the movie was taken from one.) But it is certainly worth watching. I passed by this movie numerous times in the video store because at the time there was a TON of bad horror movies that were littering the shelves at Blockbuster. It's available on Netflix Instant now which makes watching it much easier. The director Michael J. Bassett has only done a few movies but I recommend most of them (They aren't what I would consider psychological horror though) Wilderness, Solomon Kane and he is the director of the upcoming Silent Hill: Revelation

There you are Psychological Thriller thread, hiding away in the back pages. Let's dust you off:

This is the second time that I've found an Australian thriller that takes place on a boat hiding away in the Redbox to be quickly forgotten. The descriptions of this movie that I've found are loving horrid at marketing the movie. For example:

"Surfing charters are meant to be a trip to Paradise... With 7 male surfers stuck on a boat, there's bound to be some friction - but when two of the boys are replaced at the last minute with two gorgeous girls - the heat is turned way up! The one 'single girl' on board - SAM - enjoys the attention. She soon has them all wrapped around her finger, as she challenges surf legend "BULL" in being 'the Alpha Male' on board. But The Bull decides to make a forceful move on Sam. Archie's loyalty is torn - between Bull and the group, as the others beat and abandon Bull on an island, but soon the ever-determined Bull returns..! It's soon a life-and-death struggle on board the yacht, as the five imprisoned friends - Archie, Sam, Toobs, Rob and Alex - must survive the fury of the psycho at the helm"

There's a lot in the plot that has been explored by movies like Dead Calm and Donkey Punch. What's remarkable is watching this guy: go from being happy-go-lucky surfer dude to something much darker. It's a genuine transition and even when's he's crossed the line, you can still see his actions and behavior as something that a person that enjoys bullying is capable of. Give it a chance if you come across it, I'd hate to see these low-budget well-written movies disappear because of poor marketing.

Just caught this on demand and figured I'd give it a recommendation:

It's a found footage film and you can take what you will from that. I'll recommend the movie by comparing it to Apollo 18. Wait! Wait! I'll explain, the one thing that Apollo 18 did that I really geeked out about was giving the general vibe that you were actually witnessing a moon mission through found footage. This movie gives that same super-science vibe about a mission to Europa. Everything in it feels plausible which is the most important thing about a movie like this to me. The characters in it aren't just dummies that get offed by moonspiders, even if the trailer unfortunately makes it look like that. You can watch on demand now or it'll get released to (probably limited) theaters in August.
