Set the camera to Manual focus with EVF, use the AFL/AEL button to get it to focus close to what you need and tweak if necessary. Can be finicky at first but you get used to it :D.

Agreed, excellent camera - the quality you get just straight out of camera in jpeg is quite amazing.
