If Sony would make an A7III with an RGB BSI sensor, how would that not sell like hot cakes?

Last I checked, A7 sales were fine. Sony sensors are fine and the only people saying otherwise are hardcore anti-Sony people and clickbait content creators. Both camps would still complain even if Sony made a Foveon-style sensor.

I have an A7II myself, so I wasn't claiming that Sony's failing at selling them to begin with. Having an RGB sensor (on a decent mount instead of SA) would however create additional incentives for users from other systems to convert. And maybe sell some more to existing Sony system users. I'd get that hypothetical A7III.

As for advantages of an RGB sensor, it is theoretical 7x improvement in light sensitivity, higher sharpness and no need for AA filters.

I'm all for better tech myself, but nothing I've seen from Sigma so far points towards improving light sensitivity in any way. Instead of tilting at windmills with Foveon, I'd rather see Sony take the Super CCD approach and have two sets of microsites, one for highlights, one for shadows.

I like my A7S, but I was thinking about what I would replace it with if I lost it. Naturally, I thought about the A7SII, but then I checked the prices and god drat, Sony, the A7SII is nice, but is it really worth twice the price of an A7S?

The E-mount 36mm f/1.8 is stabilized. That's why it's expensive. It's also a really good lens too.

The buttons on the A7 series are customizable. I have one set to focus peaking colour, so really it's one or two clicks to set.

So Sony mirrorless (and Canikon) owners should keep this on their radar: Zenit's back with 50mm f/0.95, 50mm f/1.2, 85mm f/1.2 (~$500 each, depending on the Ruble)

That's insane. None of those lenses are particularly wonderful compared to the competition. Yeah, they were great back when you could get them for cheap, but that was about it.

So I went to an airshow over the last 2 days, and I am not happy with the A7's EVF performance in bright sunlight. Normally I know that with a mirrorless, what you see isn't always what you get out, but in this airshow it was really hard, even with the histograms to tell how the outside image would look like. Is this an issue with mirrorless in b road daylight. (The photos I took turned out well, and that gimmick mirror lens rocks in broad daylight, while the 16-35 did its job taking photos of the static displays). Just a thing I noticed after around 16 hours of shooting in daylight.

Could you explain exactly how the performance did not meet your expectations and in what manner it did not match what you got? The EVF is fine on my A7S.

Ok, I've used my A7 for a year and change now, and its a great camera, but in the broad daylight, what I saw in the EVF (and its metering) did not match what I downloaded into lightroom. When using my 16-35 f4, I had to constantly decrease exposure to make the image match what I would have expected the EVF to show. Now I understand unlike say a DSLR where what you see is usually (not counting for say white ballance) is what you get, but the screen did not match 'reality'.

Did you turn up the EVF brightness? I usually have to do that when I'm out in the sun. You're probably cranking up the exposure to compensate for a dim viewfinder set for indoor light levels.

That's why I have an A7S. It doesn't matter if it's full frame or crop, it's the best drat low light camera out there, even two years after it was released. Is it the best at anything else? Hell no, but low light is what I do.

The Sony 35mm f/2.8 is a good lens. It's small, light and the lens hood is great because you can leave it on all the time even when your camera is in a bag. It's quite sharp at f/2.8, but it is a Zeiss lens, so no big surprise there. It's also relatively reasonably priced compared to the other Sony FE-mount lenses. If there are any downsides, it's that manual focus isn't very good but that's a common thing with modern AF lenses and there is considerable focus breathing, which doesn't matter for photos, but may give you trouble with video.

No one votes Sony because this is the de facto Fuji thread and most Sony owners have kind of given up on it. Really, there should be a separate Fuji thread.

So Samyang's cheaper Chinese cousin, Meike is releasing 3 new APSC lens. They have mounts for Sony/Fuji/m43/Canon/Nikon too.

The prices are quite cheap
28mm/2.8 $86
35mm/1.7 $90
50mm/2.0 $77

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/1196450

Don't asks me why they are in FF focal length instead of APSC appropriate focal length.

Anyone want to give them a try.

They're probably old manual focus lens designs (especially those ones with the old-school M42-type focusing rings) where all they did was reverse-engineer the existing design, adapt it for smaller/cheaper lenses and then call it good. The only thing even approaching a bargain with those lenses is the 35mm f/1.7, otherwise you might as well go find some old glass and a cheap adapter and get the same or better results for less money.

Why are you putting money into a m43 if you really want Fuji? Buy a Fuji and then build your collection from there. If you stay with the GX85 and build up your m43 stuff, then it'll be more difficult to switch to Fuji later. I mean I'm hardly the biggest Fuji fan in the world, but drat.

I've seen that effect before with my A7S in silent shooting mode. Pretty much all you can do is slow down the shutter speed. Streetlights can do horrible things with electronic shutters too.

The 35mm f/2.8 was what I was going to suggest, but you've got that already. If you've got a bunch of decent old manual focus lenses, then get adapters for them. I shoot mostly manual focus glass with my A7S and I really don't miss AF that much.
