Currently we are living in the West Adams neighborhood of Los Angeles. Not that great of a spot, just east of Culver City. Primary local businesses are payday loans, liquor stores and churches if that tells you anything. I was quoted between $350-400 for a year of renter's insurance through Progressive, who we have motorcycle and car insurance through already. A quick quote through State Farm was similar, if not a little higher. Is this at all reasonable for the area, or does anyone have a better option? Seeing quotes of around $100 throughout this thread made me question the couple I've gotten.

We just submitted our first application over the weekend and I'm trying not to go crazy waiting for a decision tonight. There were 3 other applications submitted, and we're already pushing our luck with a small dog in a no pets building (they were cool with it for an additional fee, they just normally don't allow them), so I'm a negative nancy and I'm thinking one of the SWMs will be getting first dibs instead. I hate apartment hunting. This was the second Saturday in a row devoted to walking around and seeing places. Everywhere we went there was a line of people waiting to check it out. Silverlake was the worst, 15-20 people all trying to see a one bedroom back house that was the size of a water heater closet.

Signing the lease tomorrow for a spot in a really nice 4-unit building on a super quiet street around the corner from our old neighborhood with lots of stuff to walk to. Can't wait to get out of this lovely 'hood we're in now.

Is there somewhere I can check online to easily see what ISPs are available for a new address, and possibly user ratings of them? I've been looking up individual providers and its kind of tedious (no FiOS service, sadly).

What can I do about a management company not sending a notice of rent increase? Our rent was increased around this time last year, right as a new management company took over. It was just increased again without a notice of any kind, I logged into the web portal to pay for April and saw the increase. They are required to give 30 days notice for this amount of increase. What should I do besides sending them an email asking what the gently caress? Can/should I report them before contacting them? This is in Los Angeles. I guess the main thing that annoys me about it is the fact that I think any kind of complaint will result in - at best - a waste of time for me, a letter being sent now, and the increase just happening next month anyway.

Well I'll be damned, I received a notice today with May 1st as the effective date, and they refunded the difference for April. All with no action on my part. Still annoyed at the increase, but that soothes my frustration at least.
