I'm going to pack everything I own into my car and drive off into the sunset in a few weeks.

I'm going to a new city in a new state I've never been to before. Somebody give me pro tips on how to do this. Do I just drive over, live out of a motel for a few days while I apartment hunt?

Yes, and make sure that anything irreplaceable or very small and high value (documents, pictures, fine jewelry) goes into the apartment or hotel room with you. Keep that in mind when you're loading your car.

I would guess that a hotel would be a bit cheaper than a Airbnb (or use VRBO, often cheaper for the exact same property) but a Airbnb will have a kitchen so you don't have to eat out every meal.
